Virtumonde, Smitfraud-C infection

I have somehow been infected by Virtumonde as well. Spybot detects but cannot remove several files (Virtumonde.generic, virtumonde.sci, virtumonde.dll, Smitfraud-C and others). In normal mode scan, system crashes. In safe mode, scan completes but removal is not successful. Internet is very slow, with lots of popups for "onlineproantispywarescanner", and "Install AVG"

I have all my data file backed up on an external hard drive, so I have two questions - 1) could the external drive be infected also? and 2) if not, should I just wipe and reformat - the computer is relatively new and it would not take too lontg to reinstall my applications.

If you still need help, and you have read and followed the "Before you Post" directions, post a new HJT log since it has been four days, and I will take a look, please describe any recent symptoms.
