    Default PWS.LDPinchIE and Win32.Delf.uc

    Hello,

    I have the subject malware, have used S&D to remove the offending register entries, have also tracked down the executables (where I could) and deleted them, but at reboot, the registry entries come back. Please help. Here is the HJT log. Thanks . . . Haankster

    Hello,
    Thank you for helping me. I know you are busy, so no need to apologize for the wait.

    After reporting this, I tried to update spybot (it's at 1.6.0 currently) but could not. My infection tries to download more stuff continuously, so I would run spybot periodically to try to clean them out. At the last running, it flagged Win32.Jolee.K, Smitfraud-C, and two variants of Virtumonde, in addition to the original viruses.

    On my last reboot, a windows message popped up saying some of the systems files were incorrect and asking to insert the XP SP3 CD to reinstall the bad files. The only problem with that is my SP3 came in an auto update over the net and not via a CD, so I could not do that. I cancelled out of that pop up, and the computer hung on the logon screen. So, I turned it off and waited for your help.

    One more bad thing, on a previous virus clean about a year ago, I disabled the system restore, and forgot to enable it when my machine was clean. So, we do not have that available to us. My bad there.

    I'm thinking I may be able to do safe mode boot to get the HJT log, then transfer the log to this machine via thumb(flash) drive and send it to you. What do you think?

    Hello,

    I tried booting in safe mode with internet, and could not boot. It gives me in succession:
    1. The Logon screen
    2. The "Loading you personal settings" screen
    3. A "Logging off" screen
    4. A "Saving your settings: screen
    5. The Logon Screen

    If I continue, it just repeats.

    I need some help to get past this.

    I will work without that new HJT log just now.

    Well Hank, you have some nasty stuff we must remove. I want first to say if you can turn on System Restore, please do so. I believe an infected System Restore is better than no System Restore if we need to use it.

    Next, if you need to bring the tools from another computer via removable media, please be sure that media is not infected. One of the fastest ways to spread an infection, for some reason, it does not occur to folks that they are sticking it into another computer unprotected and then sticking it into their own computer

    I wish to start with combofix, keep in mind it is 2.78 MB's and the removable media must be able to hold it.

    Make sure you read and follow the directions, anything else will slow the process and waste both of our time. I suggest you keep this computer offline except when troubleshooting, the junk may download more. If you have any tool I use, delete it and download it new from the link I provide. Read and follow the directions carefully, the tools will not work unless you do.
    The junk can be tough to remove, so do not expect fast or easy.

    1) Please DO NOT ENABLE Spybot S&D TeaTimer while we work together.

    2) A word of warning: Neither I nor sUBs are responsible for any damage you may have caused your machine by running ComboFix on your own. This tool is not a toy and not for everyday use

    * IMPORTANT !!! Save ComboFix.exe to your Desktop

    • Disable your AntiVirus and AntiSpyware applications, usually via a right click on the System Tray icon. They may otherwise interfere with our tools
    • See this Link for programs that need to be disabled and instruction on how to disable them.
    • Remember to re-enable them when we're done.

    • Double click on ComboFix.exe & follow the prompts.
    • As part of it's process, ComboFix will check to see if the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is installed. With malware infections being as they are today, it's strongly recommended to have this pre-installed on your machine before doing any malware removal. It will allow you to boot up into a special recovery/repair mode that will allow us to more easily help you should your computer have a problem after an attempted removal of malware.
    • Follow the prompts to allow ComboFix to download and install the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console, and when prompted, agree to the End-User License Agreement to install the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console.


    **Please note: If the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is already installed, ComboFix will continue it's malware removal procedures.


    Once the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is installed using ComboFix, you should see the following message:

    Click on Yes, to continue scanning for malware.

    When finished, it shall produce a log for you. Please include the C:\ComboFix.txt in your next reply along with a New Hijackthis log.

    *If there is no internet connection when Combofix has completely finished then restart your computer to restore back the connections.

    3) Post also an uninstall list: Open Hijackthis.

    Default Need help getting past the boot

    Hello Phil,

    I'm stuck. I can't get the computer to boot. From the hard drive, both in a normal boot and a safe mode boot, it gets into the loop of logon screens that I described earlier.

    I also tried booting from the windows XP CD. This gives an early option of doing an autorecovery, but choosing that option results in it asking for recovery floppy disks (which I don't have). Letting it run beyond that point, it then loads up a lot of drivers, then asks me if I want to install XP or use the recovery console to repair an existing installation. Choosing the recovery console results in a dos like prompt.

    So, can I run ComboFix from the recovery console dos prompt?

    I'm sorry to be so dense here. Thank you for your patience.

    Hello Phil,

    I tried to run ComboFix from the dos prompt in the recovery console. It didn't work. While in the recovery console, the computer does not recognize my thumb (flash) drive. I could burn ComboFix to a CD and try it again. It does recognize the CD. But, I'll wait for your inputs before I try that.

    email help is free but it can take a day or two to get a response. I recently had a SP3 installation issue and the tech showed me how to fix it in one email.

    Default On to Plan B

    Hello Phil,

    I was not able to get the computer to successfully boot. So, I have gone to plan B. I purchased another hard drive, reinstalled Windows on it, and am (slowly) reinstalling software.

    Before closing this thread, would you comment on my plan to get my data back from the infected hard drive. Basically, I'm planning to install the infected drive as a second hard drive, scan it extensively with virus scanners, delete all of the windows, program, and systems files, and keep only the data files (doc, txt, pdf, media, etc.). I realize that there is risk that there may be infection lurking in some of the data files. What is your opinion of this plan? Would you consider the risk of reinfection to be high, moderate, or low?

    Also, my company requires that I use Symantec anti-virus and Infoexpress CyberArmor firewall. This is required for connecting into my company through their firewall. Those tools did not do a decent job of protection, as Spybot was showing alerts when symantec was oblivious. If this were your computer, what firewall and anti-virus would you use?
