Hi Shaba:
The short answer is : Yes, Nortons AV is outdated.
If you are interested in the long answer, read on.
Back in the days of DOS (now I'm dating myself) I used Peter Norton's Utilities, upgrading to the latest versions frequently. I continued this practice after Symantic purchased Peter's assets. The last version I purchased included virus protection. Subsequently, I renewed this product annually at a cost of $20.00 per year. I continued this practice for ~3 years until Symantec Informed me that in order to continue I would be required to purchase the latest version at a cost of ~$80.00! Since I felt that this was not a very good way to keep a loyal customer, I did not upgrade (nor do I intend to). All this said, I have no axe to grind with Symantec as their product worked well for me. I just think that their "marketing strategy" is poor at best. (Many companies have similar policies, unfortunately. Must be the "Harvard Business School" philosophy.)
I have been using AVG's free virus checker on my back up PC as well as on my portable. I have not experienced any problems with AVG and I am grateful that it is provided at no charge to this non commercial user.
If you have read this "long winded" story, I hope that I have not bored you to tears:=)
Best regards,
Rob.....
