Lightbulb Can only describe the symptoms

    Hello,
I am running XP professional that used to be on a network. I have the admin login and pw. The three main problems I am having are the following:

    1. The computer locks up and sometimes fails to completely load when I try to logon, not in safe mode. The mouse will also freeze.

    2. Whatever I have will not let me visit certain sites relating to antivirus, spybot etc... It will also freeze and disable these programs. It was very difficult for me to even install spy bot and I still do not think it is working completely. It also redirects me to other websites when trying to visit any of the above websites. Anything I was able to install had to be done in safe mode.

    3. My system restore is not working properly. At first I was unable to click next to finalize the system restore but it has gotten progressively worse and now it does not even run restore and says it is unable to protect me.

The first weird problem I noticed was a box that kept appears that said something like "could not initialize diskeeper" and press ok.

I have uninstalled Utorrent (i believe i did it correctly since there was no uninstall) and also removed soul seeker.

I have tried several programs i.e adaware , antivirus (whenever i was able to run them in safe mode.) before i ran hijack. I have not done anything after hijack and will not until i receive instruction from this forum.

I also ran erunt and have my backup reg. saved.

    Thank You in Advance.

I tried to get the log to have each item on the same line but it doesnt seem to work that way due to space limitations. Let me know if there is another way to do it so it is easier to read.

yes this is my personal system that i purchased from my old job when they went belly up. I continued to log on the same way I did at work even tho it is off the network. I tried to change the domain once and I almost lost all my work since I couldnt log on anymore. So I had to restore to be able to log on again. The scan I ran was under safemode for the admin. I starting noticing the problems under my regular logon. I am not sure if it makes a difference what logon I use or if its regular or safe mode.

If I need to change the domain again that is no problem as long I was can get to my files and log on. I do not have to have it set up the way it is. If was just easier for me not to mess with anything.

    Thanks for the response.

    Hi

I recommend uninstalling CyberDefender if it's free version there.

Please visit this webpage for download links, and instructions for running ComboFix tool:

    http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/comb...o-use-combofix

Please ensure you read this guide carefully and install the Recovery Console first.

The Windows Recovery Console will allow you to boot up into a special recovery (repair) mode. This allows us to more easily help you should your computer have a problem after an attempted removal of malware. It is a simple procedure that will only take a few moments of your time.

Once installed, you should see a blue screen prompt that says:

The Recovery Console was successfully installed.

    Please continue as follows:

    1. Close/disable all anti virus and anti malware programs so they do not interfere with the running of ComboFix, link
      Remember to re-enable them afterwards.

    2. Click Yes to allow ComboFix to continue scanning for malware.

When the tool is finished, it will produce a report for you.

Please include the following reports for further review, and so we may continue cleansing the system:

    C:\ComboFix.txt
    New HijackThis log.

A word of warning: Neither I nor sUBs are responsible for any damage you may have caused your machine by running ComboFix. This tool is not a toy and not for everyday use.

    Hi again,

    Uninstall these vulnerable Javas:
    Java(TM) 6 Update 3
    Java(TM) 6 Update 5
    Java(TM) 6 Update 6
    Java(TM) 6 Update 7

Mozilla Firefox (2.0) is not supported anymore. If you use Firefox then get the latest one here.

Start hjt, do a system scan, check (if found):
    O2 - BHO: (no name) - {602ADB0E-4AFF-4217-8AA1-95DAC4DFA408} - (no file)
    O2 - BHO: (no name) - {6D53EC84-6AAE-4787-AEEE-F4628F01010C} - (no file)
    O3 - Toolbar: (no name) - {7FEBEFE3-6B19-4349-98D2-FFB09D4B49CA} - (no file)
    O17 - HKLM\System\CS3\Services\Tcpip\Parameters: NameServer = 85.255.112.89,85.255.112.201

    Close browsers and fix checked.

Uninstall old Adobe Reader versions and get the latest one here or get Foxit Reader here. Make sure you don't install toolbar if choose Foxit Reader!

Open notepad and copy/paste the text in the quotebox below into it:

    Code:
    File::
    c:\windows\ASSE.dat
    c:\recycler\S-4-2-32-100016085-100004298-100016323-8498.com

    Folder::
    c:\program files\AdWare SpyWare SE
    c:\program files\Soulseek
    c:\documents and settings\jcartagena\Application Data\uTorrent

    Registry::
    [-HKEY_CURRENT_USER\software\microsoft\windows\currentversion\explorer\mountpoints2\C]

    [-HKEY_CURRENT_USER\software\microsoft\windows\currentversion\explorer\mountpoints2\{4f104590-3f86-11dc-955f-bc5ae248b5b9}]

    Save this as
    CFScript

A word of warning: Neither I nor sUBs are responsible for any damage you may have caused your machine. This tool is not a toy and not for everyday use.

Refering to the picture above, drag CFScript into ComboFix.exe
    Then post the resultant log.

Combofix should never take more that 20 minutes including the reboot if malware is detected.
If it does, open Task Manager then Processes tab (press ctrl, alt and del at the same time) and end any processes of findstr, find, sed or swreg, then combofix should continue.
If that happened we want to know, and also what process you had to end.

Download ATF (Atribune Temp File) Cleaner© by Atribune to your desktop.

Double-click ATF Cleaner.exe to open it

    Under Main choose:
    Windows Temp
    Current User Temp
    All Users Temp
    Cookies
    Temporary Internet Files
    Prefetch
    Java Cache

    *The other boxes are optional*
Then click the Empty Selected button.

    If you use Firefox:
Click Firefox at the top and choose: Select All
    Click the Empty Selected button.
NOTE: If you would like to keep your saved passwords, please click NO at the prompt.

    If you use Opera:
Click Opera at the top and choose: Select All
    Click the Empty Selected button.
NOTE: If you would like to keep your saved passwords, please click NO at the prompt.

Click Exit on the Main menu to close the program.

Please run an online scan with Kaspersky Online Scanner as instructed in the screenshot here. If you get a message that latest Java must be installed "enable" the Java add-ons in IE7. Do that using "manage add-ons" from the IE7 toolbar.

Post back its report, a fresh hjt log and above mentioned ComboFix resultant log.

I had some issues with Kapersky online scan. At first it was being blocked by IE because of active x. I made the necessary changes in IE to allow the d/l but then it was blocked by windows because the it couldnt verify the publisher. I made the adjustments to d/l unsigned (not sure if that was too bright) and I clicked ok but nothing happened. I became a little concerned at that point. I was wondering why kapersky would have me d/l something unpublished and when i allowed it nothing happened. I hope I didnt recreate any other problems. I know whatever i have/had was giving problems even getting to AV sites.

Any idea whats my issue with Kapersky online scan? FYI i changed all my IE setting back.

I ran F-secure following these instructions below.

After many hours FSecure had runtime error but before it did i can remember seeing 1 virus and 1 malware. I then ran eset online scanner. I followed the follwing directions below for both. Your directions for eset beta did not talk about archives (i believe that was one of the options) I left that unchecked. I could not get the first eset online scanner to work so i used the beta.

    F-Secure Online Scan

Please go to F-Secure website to perform an online scan. Click on Start scanning at the bottom of the page.
You may be prompted to install an ActiveX before you are able to accept the License Agreement. If prompted, please install it. After installing, the Accept button will be available.
Click on Accept to accept the License Agreement.
    Click on Custom Scan.
Under Virus Scan Options, select the Scan whole system option.
