    Default browser hijacked

When I use search engines and click links I am diverted to pay sites, store search sites and all sorts of other locations. I click back and click the link again and get diverted to a different site. After clicking back several times I will eventually get to the site i want to go to.

Hello and welcome to the Forums
    You're infected.

At first you need to disable a few realtime protections. These may interfere with our cleaning process.
We'll enable these when you're clean...

    Disable Spybot S&D Teatimer.
    • Run Spybot-S&D in Advanced Mode
    • If it is not already set to do this, go to the Mode menu select "Advanced Mode"
    • On the left hand side, click on Tools
    • Then click on the Resident icon in the list
    • Uncheck "Resident TeaTimer" and OK any prompts.
    • Restart your computer

    We will begin with ComboFix.

Please download ComboFix from one of these locations:

    Link 1
    Link 2
    Link 3

    * IMPORTANT !!! Save ComboFix.exe to your Desktop

    • Disable your AntiVirus and AntiSpyware applications, usually via a right click on the System Tray icon. They may otherwise interfere with our tools
    • Double click on ComboFix.exe & follow the prompts.
    • As part of it's process, ComboFix will check to see if the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is installed. With malware infections being as they are today, it's strongly recommended to have this pre-installed on your machine before doing any malware removal. It will allow you to boot up into a special recovery/repair mode that will allow us to more easily help you should your computer have a problem after an attempted removal of malware.
    • Follow the prompts to allow ComboFix to download and install the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console, and when prompted, agree to the End-User License Agreement to install the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console.

**Please note: If the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is already installed, ComboFix will continue it's malware removal procedures.

Once the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is installed using ComboFix, you should see the following message:

Click on Yes, to continue scanning for malware.

When finished, it will produce a log for you. Please include the C:\ComboFix.txt in your next reply along with a fresh HijackThis log.

This tool is not a toy and not for everyday use.
ComboFix SHOULD NOT be used unless requested by a forum helper

I disabled spybot and turned off mcafee. downloaded combofix on to the desktop and ran it. A message popped up saying "errors encountered while performing the operation. Look at the information window for more details." However no such window came up. the combofix progress bar stayed on screen but the program never opened. What should I do?

    Thanks

    Hi

Okay. Please check if a file C:\ComboFix.txt exists and post that to here.

I could not find a combofix.txt file even with search function. I don't think it was able to run for some reason. should i try running it in safe mode?

    Hi

    Ok let's try safe mode.

Restart your computer to the safe mode:
    • Restart your computer
    • Start tapping the F8 key when the computer restarts.
    • When the start menu opens, choose Safe mode
    • Press Enter. The computer then begins to start in Safe mode.

    Run ComboFix.

Restart to normal mode and post the log to here
