    Hello

    You got some infections there....

    We will begin with ComboFix.

    Please download ComboFix from one of these locations:

    Link 1
    Link 2
    Link 3

    * IMPORTANT !!! Save ComboFix.exe to your Desktop

    • Disable your AntiVirus and AntiSpyware applications, usually via a right click on the System Tray icon. They may otherwise interfere with our tools
    • Double click on ComboFix.exe & follow the prompts.
    • As part of it's process, ComboFix will check to see if the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is installed. With malware infections being as they are today, it's strongly recommended to have this pre-installed on your machine before doing any malware removal. It will allow you to boot up into a special recovery/repair mode that will allow us to more easily help you should your computer have a problem after an attempted removal of malware.
    • Follow the prompts to allow ComboFix to download and install the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console, and when prompted, agree to the End-User License Agreement to install the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console.

    **Please note: If the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is already installed, ComboFix will continue it's malware removal procedures.

    Once the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is installed using ComboFix, you should see the following message:

    Click on Yes, to continue scanning for malware.

    When finished, it will produce a log for you. Please include the C:\ComboFix.txt in your next reply along with a fresh HijackThis log.

    This tool is not a toy and not for everyday use.
    ComboFix SHOULD NOT be used unless requested by a forum helper

    Hiya, we'll continue
    At first I'd like you to upload a few samples for further analysis...

    Please download the Suspicious file Packer from Safer-Networking.Org and unzip it to your desktop.

    Run SFP.exe.

    Please copy the following lines into the Step 1: Paste Text window:
    C:\vobumjj.exe
    C:\rhhqysye.exe
    then click "Continue".

    This will create a .cab file on your desktop named requested-files[Date/Time].cab

    Please go to this forum
    There's no need to register. Just start a new topic in the "Uploads" section, titled "Files for Jak3".
    Copy the link of this topic to the message.

    Use the Attachment box to upload the cab file from your desktop.

    NOTE: You will not see the files that have been uploaded (including the ones you upload yourself) as they only show to the authorised users who can download them

    Thank you

    ============

    1. Close any open browsers.

    2. Close/disable all anti virus and anti malware programs so they do not interfere with the running of ComboFix.

    3. Open notepad and copy/paste the text in the quotebox below into it:

    File::
    c:\windows\onahokofatahi.dll
    C:\vobumjj.exe
    C:\rhhqysye.exe
    c:\windows\instsp2.exe

    Folder::
    c:\program files\temp01

    Registry::
    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run]
    "3487"=-

    [HKLM\~\services\sharedaccess\parameters\firewallpolicy\standardprofile\AuthorizedApplications\List]
    "c:\\vobumjj.exe"=-
    Save this as "CFScript.txt", and as Type: All Files (*.*) in the same location as ComboFix.exe

    Refering to the picture above, drag CFScript into ComboFix.exe

    When finished, it shall produce a log for you at C:\ComboFix.txt which I will require in your next reply. Post a fresh HijackThis log too

    Hiya

    Looks much better. How is the computer running?

    You have som Symantec leftovers, run the Norton Removal Tool

    Run HijackThis, click Do a system scan only, and check the box next to each of these entries if still present. Close all other windows and press Fix checked. If something isn't there, please continue with the next entry in the list.

    You don't seem to have a third-party firewall installed. You must install one firewall.
    It is possible that you're using the Windows XP firewall. That is of course better than nothing but I recommend that you install a more advanced firewall that gives more protection. Windows firewall doesn't eg protect your computer from inbound threats. This means that any malware on your computer is free to "phone home" for more instructions. Remember to use only one firewall at the same time. I'll give you a few alternatives if you want to install a third-party firewall:

    These are good (free) firewalls:

    You don't have an antivirus on your computer, you must install one antivirus. Otherwise you'll get infected again.

    These are good (free) antiviruses:

    Restart the computer. Post a fresh HijackThis log and let me know how the pc is running

    Hi

    Okay let's try to restore the file associations for the jpeg files....

    Download xp_jpg_jpe_jpeg_file_assoc_fix.zip to your desktop.
    Extract it on your desktop.

    Doubleclick on file xp_jpg_jpe_jpeg_file_assoc_fix.reg
    When it asks about merging - Allow it.

    Restart the pc and try opening a jpeg file.

    Let me know the results
