Which 'spybot' are you speaking of, and also what application data/registry keys/program file folder removed?

    Best regards.

    Hello,

Normally there should be no conflict between Spybot - Search & Destroy and McAfee and you should be able to use both programs together. The problem is that McAfee seems to destroy the normal uninstall function of Spybot and hence it can produce several errors if you want to remove Spybot on your own. That's the fault of McAfee and you should complain to them about it.

So if the usual uninstall does not work i would suggest to make a fresh install of Spybot, so that you have the legitimate uninstall file.
    Download from this link.
Then try again to remove it via the add/remove panel in windows or by using the uninstall file in the Spybot folder.

In order to completely uninstall Spybot - Search & Destroy, please consider the following link:
    http://www.safer-networking.org/en/howto/uninstall.html

Additionally it would be very supportive if you could tell us which version of McAfee you are refering to. Would it be possible to send us a screenshot that shows how McAfee tells you that you have to uninstall Spybot? So we could try to reproduce the situation in order to help you to solve the problem.

We are not happy with the new marketing strategy that softwares like
McAfee use to kick competitors out of the business.
Please do also have a look at this link on our homepage:

Sandra- What is this conclusion based on, that McAfee destroys the uninstall function of Spybot? I am not doubting your word, but asking for the source of this conclusion. Since you use the word "seems", are you implying that you are not certain of this? Thank you.

    Hello,

Please don't use PMs for requesting help. The Forums are there for a reason.

    Our tests did show this.
Further we have hundreds of users reporting this.
When McAfee is installed and you have Spybot on your system then you are forced by McAfee to uninstall Spybot. On all pc's with McAfee on it the usual uninstall function is broke an you'll get an error message like:
"C:\program files\spybot - search & destroy\unins000.msg" is missing. Please correct the problem or obtain a new copy of the program."

    Best regards

Point of clarification... I didn't use PMs to request help. I sent you a PM with a link to this message when you had not replied to it for six days. The PM said, in its entirety, "When you have time".

Sure doesn't make much sense that McAfee, who wants to "kick competitors out of the business" would purposefully break the uninstaller, but stranger things have happened.
Thank you for your helpful response.

    rocks 1976,

In your original post you mentioned that you uninstalled all registry keys and all application data files and program files.

Can you tell me how to remove the application data files? And the rest of it?

Iin the link sited above Spybot says you have to remove application data flies by hand and for instructions to do this go here:

    http://www.telecom.co.nz/help/conten...4-1000,00.html

???????This link given by Spybot doesn't help at all. Thanks.

I'd suggest you reinstall Spybot and check the settings I gave you in the other thread. I don't think removing the Application Folder and Spybot associated registry keys might resolve your query.

    Default this exact problem

I am having this EXACT problem. I have been in touch with McAfee three times already today. They advised me to come to Spybot S & D support to find out how to correctly unistall the program. So is the advice to download a newer version of S&D and then uninstall it again?
