Default Please help me identify malware

    Hello,

I believe that my PC is infected with a malware but I can not identify it. I am unable to update my anti-virus software (Avira) and when I click on a Google search result I am redirected to an unwanted webpage (no pattern that I can see). Also, my browser (Firefox) closes intermittently.

I have scanned my PC using Spybot S&D, MalawareBytes Anti-Malaware and Super AntiSpyware but the results are negative. I have run out of ideas and am hoping you can point me in the right direction!

I have disabled TeaTimer, backed up my registry with ERUNT and my HJT log is below. (Hope I haven't missed a step!)

    Many thanks, Helen

    Hi Helen,

Download DDS and save it to your desktop from here or here or here.
Disable any script blocker, and then double click dds.scr to run the tool.
    • When done, DDS will open two (2) logs:
      1. DDS.txt
      2. Attach.txt
    • Save both reports to your desktop. Post them back to your topic.

    Hiya,

Thanks for reply. I downloaded dds.scr but couldn't get it to run. A command window opened briefly and then closed again. I searched past forums and found your suggestion to rename the scr file. This didn't work either. I the other suggestion you made in another thread and downloaded RSIT instead. Hope this is ok. The two logs follow. Helen

    Hi

Yes, using RSIT was ok since it doesn't make modifications to your system

Please visit this webpage for download links, and instructions for running ComboFix tool:

    http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/comb...o-use-combofix

Please ensure you read this guide carefully and install the Recovery Console first.

The Windows Recovery Console will allow you to boot up into a special recovery (repair) mode. This allows us to more easily help you should your computer have a problem after an attempted removal of malware. It is a simple procedure that will only take a few moments of your time.

Once installed, you should see a blue screen prompt that says:

The Recovery Console was successfully installed.

    Please continue as follows:

    1. Close/disable all anti virus and anti malware programs so they do not interfere with the running of ComboFix, link
      Remember to re-enable them afterwards.

    2. Click Yes to allow ComboFix to continue scanning for malware.

When the tool is finished, it will produce a report for you.

Please include the following reports for further review, and so we may continue cleansing the system:

    C:\ComboFix.txt
    New HijackThis log.

A word of warning: Neither I nor sUBs are responsible for any damage you may have caused your machine by running ComboFix. This tool is not a toy and not for everyday use.

    Hi,

Just tried to go to the bleepingcomputer website it didn't load. (I just got a white screen in both IE and Firefox.)

Will try again later in case their site is temporarily down.

    Hi Helen,

Infection most likely blocks access to the site. You'll need to access it from clean system.

Aargh.. think I have done something very wrong. I downloaded ComboFix to a clean PC and transferred it to my infected laptop. I disabled my Firewall and AntiVir, then ran ComboFix. I was prompted to install Windows Recovery, but this failed to install so I clicked ok and planned to manually install it after the log was generated (as per the bleeping computer instructions). Combofix got as far as 'stages', but then froze on a blue screen saying "Rebooting windows...Please wait." It has been frozen for over an hour, so I am going to turn the laptop off. Hope I haven't killed my laptop completely now!

    Hi

If nothing happened after an hour then it's better you reboot the system manually. See if you can get those logs after reboot

    Hi,

Unfortunately I didn't get a full ComboFix log; the only info in the text field was:
