Default Items not clearing from DNS cache

    Hi,
Having had a minor problem with a usb wireless adaptor, I (XPPro) used ipconfig /dnsflush to 'clear' the DNS cache.

However, when I then ran ipconfig /displaydns, I was surprised to find a number of entries still there. These looked like typical malware items to me, so I updated Spybot and ran a full check, but it comes up 'clean'. The items still being 'there' in the dns cache even after 'flushing'. This ipconfig utility is new territory to me so I don't really know the significance of these 'unflushables', but some are clearly malware so I thought I had better ask about the cache here, and how malware addresses get into it while running with a hosts file and immunisation and teatimer applied.

I note that running ipconfig /displaydns while I am on line writing this enquiry, I get a different set of entries, again some of which are dubious. What is going on? It is rather unsettling to find addresses of porn sites for example in 'my' dns cache, when I haven't actually been anywhere but 'Safer Networking' today!

    Cheers,

    S
