    Default Compter Freezing

I know my PC is old but I've had a lot of cookies that I've had to delete. But this morning my computer froze, the mouse would not move and I could not activate spybot. I turned the PC off then on again, it froze that time, too. It took three attempts to get the PC to operate. Here is an HJT report, any assistance is appreciated.

    Thank you.

My computer is maintained at room temperature, when it becomes very hot as it has been lately, I have used the air conditioner. But the past few days ie the days of the computer freeze, the temperature has been very mild. As for adding hardware, I have downloaded the latest Java and uploaded html to my blogger site (I operate a blog on Blogger) but I would not consider any of those to be hardware.

The freeze has been happening everyday since I sent you the HJT report. I did say that the day prior, I ran an spybot immunization and found 1 unprotected under my Mozilla default cookies which I promptly immunized against. Everyday since asking for help from spybot's forums, my computer has frozen. I have had to manually turn my computer off by hitting the power switch that controls the computer, printer and my ISP cable modem. Manually depressing the off button on my computer has not worked ie I can't turn it off that way.

I did some online searching for why does my computer freeze and found some discussions about registry key problems. But the discussions were by non computer techs, merely people who speculated about their own problems (and those discussions were years old). So I went to about dot com and found some free registry downloads; I'm using Piriform CCleaner to clear my registry. I did this yesterday afternoon. But this morning the problem continued. As soon as I turned on my PC, I got as far as the desktop then it froze (96% of the time the freeze happens at this point). I turned it off then on again and it then froze on a black screen prior to desktop, then had to turn it off and on again. The third time I was able to use my computer. I then went to CCleaner to fix registry again.

I'm not computer savvy and I don't have much money, I depend on this PC for work and to prepare papers, etc. I share this computer with relatives. I have heard of Pitstop but I don't have money to sign up for their services especially if I have no idea of what is wrong with my computer. I don't know if I'm experiencing a virus/malware problem or just an aging computer. The PC is old, it is an Windows XP Professional which was given to me by a friend. But it is the only PC I have and I need to use it.

I use disk clean up, I have been using this even prior to the computer freeze, on average I have 19 000 - 20 000 unnecessary files on the C: that can be deleted. I do this several times a day. I ran a disk fragmenter a couple of months ago and fragmented the C: drive and I have 51 % free space on C; drive and 83 % free space on the D: drive. At this time I do not have the A: drive installed on this PC. I have run disk fragmenter as recently as two days ago and was informed that fragmentation isn't necessary.

Is there anyway that spybot can help me even if it is NOT a virus problem? This computer is important for my work it is to help me get revenue, I rely on the blog for income (though it is not much) and relatives also rely on the computer to write papers so it is very important to have this computer. Also I have to publish daily and can not afford to lose even a day (and since it is summer AND now 4th of July weekend all libraries are closed) so I would be unable to use another computer. Fortunately the PC is running right now or else I would not be able to talk to you now. But I'm also thinking that I may not turn off the computer for a while, just let it run for days (because I do not want to take the chance that it could ever freeze up and I not be able to get it running again.)

Any help that spybot can offer would be appreciated. I know very VERY little about computers and there are so many fakers on the net that I do not want to risk getting someone who would damage my computer.

    Thank you.

For me it looks like hardware issue.

Is it OK to redirect you to some windows forum?

Since this issue appears to be resolved ... this Topic has been closed. Glad I could help.

Note: If it has been four days or more since your last post, and the helper assisting you posted a response to that post to which you did not reply, your topic will not be reopened. At that point, if you still require help, please start a new topic and include a fresh HijackThis log and a link to your previous thread.

If it has been less than four days since your last response and you need the thread re-opened, please send me or your helper a private message (pm). A valid, working link to the closed topic is required. Please do not add any logs that might have been requested in the closed topic, you would be starting fresh.
