    Default Can't Update

Auto or manual update yeilds: 'Error retrieving update info file' -and- 'Please select some update files from the list first'.
Never seen this error before and can't find the list or spybotsd.ini.

    Hi donandsal,

    to Safer Networking Forums.

Please try out the following steps:

Step # 1: Use a beta file of the updater
    • Please download SDUpdate.exe-1.6.1.19.zip to your desktop
    • Extract the downloaded archive into the main application folder (usually C:\Program Files\Spybot - Search & Destroy\)
    • Run Spybot and try to update it

Step # 2: Install Spybot again

    • Uninstall Spybot over the Add/Remove feature from Windows
    • Reboot your computer
    • Delete all leavings from Spybot manually.
    • Download Spybot 1.6.2 from here and install it.
    • Don't update Spybot during installation, but after it.

    Step # 3: Your Reply
Please let us know if the above steps were helpful.

Step 2 worked. Not the first time I've had to remove/reload, but wanted to avoid that as sometimes that can cause inconveniencies.

Step 1 yielded two or three additional error messages noting individual files that had been corrupted or were missing. Unfortunately, I did not write the names down as I thought the next update attempt would display the same errors.

The first time update ran after Step 2, the selection list of providers came up. This list would occasionally come up prior to the update failure, but not during the time update failed.

    Thanks so much Matt.
