Looking for more malware culprits

Well, I know something is up, because iexplore runs automatically in the background even though no window comes up (checked via taskmanager). Also, any search in Firefox via Google or bing leads to a redirected page when I click on a link. Finally (and the most pressing matter) is that in normal mode, when I try to run a program it usually leads to my screen turning black, and I can't do anything. The last problem doesn't happen in safe mode.

Ran a virus scan on Avira, got loads of stuff quarantined, crossed fingers...same problem. Thanks in advance for any help!

You must have read and followed the "Before you Post" instructions.

Because this log is in Safe mode with network support and you are also running with MSConfig in Selective Startup mode, I have no idea what I am not seeing. You also have not posted the HijackThis log as instucted in the "Before you Post" instructions:

By default it will install to C:\Program Files\Trend Micro\HijackThis

I can tell you it looks like this backdoor trojan is present.

To be safe, I suggest you read this information:

A Backdoor is a software program that gives an attacker unauthorized access to a machine and the means for remotely controlling the machine without the user's knowledge. A Backdoor compromises system integrity by making changes to the system that allow it to by used by the attacker for malicious purposes unknown to the user.

One or more of the identified infections is a backdoor trojan.
This allows hackers to remotely control your computer, steal critical system information and Download and Execute files
I would counsel you to disconnect this PC from the Internet immediately. If you do any banking or other financial transactions on the PC or if it should contain any other sensitive information, please get to a known clean computer and change all passwords where applicable, and it would be wise to contact those same financial institutions to apprise them of your situation.
Though the Trojan has been identified and can be killed, because of it's backdoor functionality, your PC is very likely compromised and there is no way to be sure your computer can ever again be trusted. Many experts in the security community believe that once infected with this type of Trojan, the best course of action would be a reformat and reinstall of the OS. Thank you for the information!

My computer is 7 years old and I was contemplating a replacement anyway. This was the first time that I had felt like my computer was truly compromised, and your information confirmed as much.

I rany HJT that way because I couldn't get ANY .exe file to run in normal mode. I wasn't trying to ignore the instructions in the first place. As it is, this was the last straw for the old boy; I'm getting some new gear, with a fresh antivirus/malware/firewall combo, as well as making sure my friends don't keep up the habit of P2P (I learned my lesson on "hey man just let me show you this, it's awesome!")
