Would it be best to install Service Pack 3 before I download new anti-virus software and firewall?

That might be smoother (makes sure antivirus program doesn't affect on sp3 install process).

I'm in the middle of installing SP3 and I am getting boxes with warnings like this:
Setup cannot copy the file dumprep.exe
Ensure that the location specified below is correct, or change it and insert 'windows SP System Files' in the drive you specify.
Copy Files from:
c:\windows\system32
(the last line above is a drop down box with a:\ as the other option)
And then I have the option to Retry or Cancel.
I'm not sure if this is your territory or if I should contact Microsoft for help. I didn't know if some change we made caused this alert. Any ideas?
Just to clarify, it was only one warning box.
Hi,
If retry doesn't work then cancel whole install process and read this knowledge base article and do as instructed there. Then attempt service pack installation again.

Thanks! Retry didn't work so I cancelled the installation. I am in the process of reading the article.
Is Service Pack 3 required for security purposes or can I survive with just SP2?
SP3 is recommended but SP2 with all available security updates is ok too.

Okay. I might resort to keeping SP2. Microsoft had to download a diagnostic tool to try and help me with SP3. I'll see what they say in there email before deciding.
No luck yet on the SP3 install. Microsoft emailed me a link to their newsgroups and I have posted my problem on windows updates, but have no response yet.
