Need Help! Computer running in ulta slow motion

Good Morning,

I meant to go over this with you when we where done , it looks like you have AVG Antivirus running and that you had Alwil at one time. You most likely did not do a good uninstall of Alwil as its still running as a service, this could be slowing things down.

Open HijackThis > Do a System Scan Only, close your browser and all open windows including this one, the only program or window you should have open is HijackThis, check the following entries and click on Fix Checked.

O23 - Service: aswUpdSv - ALWIL Software - (no file)




Open notepad and then copy and paste the bolded lines below into Notepad.
Go to File > save as and name the file fixes.bat.
Change the Save as type to all files and save it to your desktop.

sc stop aswUpdSv
sc delete aswUpdSv

Double-click on fixes.bat file to execute it.

Reboot and post a fresh hjt log.



By the way, all ESET found where backups of what we already removed

Yes I did have Avast prior to AVG, for my anti-virus protection.
I followed all of your instructions, but was unable to execute the fixes.bat file. I have it saved to my dektop, but when I double click on it, a dos type screen just flashes for 1 sec, then nothing. I tried it twice but same result.
Rebooted and enclosed a new HJT log. Thnx.

That batch file worked, it only takes a split second.

I neglected to mention that you also have Symantec running as a service, you need to go to your add remove programs and uninstall Symantec

Symantec was not in my add remove programs, so I went directly to The location the HJT log indicated and deleted the folder. It was located at C:program files\common files\symantec shared. The symantec item on the HJT log appears to be gone now. Is this sufficient? I have also included another HJT log. Thnx.

Good Evening Ken 545,

My computer is certainly running better than it was before your input, but it stiil seems slower than it should be. It takes more than 3 minutes to boot up and is slow opening regular files and folders, the computer seems to react slowly, delaying in opening them. To me it sounds like the hard drive is working away, ( I can literally hear it) as if it is working for another computer, or something. Is this possible? Any more suggestions? Thanks in advance for all the help!

Symantec does a good job of installing itself all over your system, why don't you run there removal tool and see if it helps. Let me know if it did , if not I can link you to a windows support site that deals with slow computers.

Do this.

Copy the entire contents inside the Quote box and Paste it into Notepad ( this will only work with Notepad ) name the file Regfix.reg and in the drop down box, save it as All Files. Save it to your desktop. Then Rightclick on the Regfix.reg file and click on Merge, when it asks you to merge with the Registry, say yes.

If you saved the file correctly it should look like this




You need to enable windows to Show all Files and Folders

Drag DDS to the trash including the report and lets run DDS again and post the log please

Download DDS by sUBs from one of the following links. Save it to your desktop.

• DDS.com
• DDS.scr
• DDS.pif
  
• Double click on the DDS icon, allow it to run.
• A small box will open, with an explaination about the tool. No input is needed, the scan is running.
• Notepad will open with the results, click no to the Optional_Scan
• Follow the instructions that pop up for posting the results.
• Close the program window, and delete the program from your desktop.

Please note: You may have to disable any script protection running if the scan fails to run. After downloading the tool, disconnect from the internet and disable all antivirus protection. Run the scan, enable your A/V and reconnect to the internet.

Good Morning Ken545,

Sorry for not responding to your last post. My computer completely crapped out. It will not boot up at all. The monitor is completely blank. All the cooling fans are running, there is power, but it will not boot. I thinks its the motherboard, CPU or hard drive. Any way I,m taking it into the shop tomorrow. Thanks for all your help. I,ll let you know when i get it back.
