    Default Unknown problem (log included)

This isn't my first visit to the fourms...not by far. I seem to get some sort of virus/trojan/etc everytime around this year, and this year proves no different.

The problems i have noticed in order are: first, my computer reverted back to a "duller" resolution (like if you take it down from 32 bit to 16, it kind of looks like i put the comp in safe mode), then the start bar went plain gray instead of that stylized xp blue. Right now, I can't connect to the internet.

HJT is below. Luckily, my laptop seems to be letting me install programs which can fight virus/malware/et al which is different from the last time something happened. The laptop was re-formatted in January.

    Hello and to Safer Networking

My name is peku006 and I will be helping you to remove any infection(s) that you may have.
I will be giving you a series of instructions that need to be followed in the order in which I give them to you.

Please observe these rules while we work:

    • If you don't know or understand something please don't hesitate to ask
    • Please DO NOT run any other tools or scans whilst I am helping you.
    • It is important that you reply to this thread. Do not start a new topic.
    • Your security programs may give warnings for some of the tools I will ask you to use. Be assured, any links I give are safe.
    • Absence of symptoms does not mean that everything is clear.

1 - download and run RSIT

    • Download random's system information tool (RSIT) by random/random from here and save it to your desktop.
    • Double click on RSIT.exe to run RSIT.
    • Click Continue at the disclaimer screen.
    • Once it has finished, two logs will open. Please post the contents of both log.txt<- (will be maximized) and info.txt<- (will be minimized)

    2- Status Check
    Please reply with

    logs from RSIT (log.txt ,info.txt)

    Thanks peku006
I don't help with logs thru PM. If you have problems create a thread in the forum, please.

Hello Peku! And thanks for the response.

Bad news.... It seems like things have gotten much worse since i initially posted. I started up my computer, and was attempting to put RSIT on my desktop via simple drag and drop from the external i had been using, but it wouldnt allow me to do this.

I tried running it off of the drive, and that worked, but it produced no logs.

Just as a general attempt, I also retried running HJT which had been saved to my desktop but i got an error message saying i did not have permission to run that..

Some other issues i just noticed in the course of doing this:
not able to drag and drop files
cannot open "help" or "search" from startup menu
sound doesnt work (in fact, when i checked in my control panel, no sound device was even being located)
also, i may or may not be able to no longer use safe mode (i tried when starting up, and the only option available was to start my system as usual...this may have been a one time thing only)

Obviously...I'm not sure what to do next.

(PS: Apologies if I seem rather pessimistic/fatalistic right now, it is a quite stress inducing time with a number of things, and a computer failure is perhaps the last thing i need)

    Hi monsieurchouette

Have you tried the "Last Known Good Configuration" bootup option?

To load the last known good configuration:
    • If the computer is running, shut down Windows, and then turn off the power.
    • Wait 30 seconds, and then turn the computer on.
    • Start tapping the F8 key. The Windows Advanced Options Menu appears.
    • (If you begin tapping the F8 key too soon, some computers display a "keyboard error" message. To resolve this, restart the computer and try again.)
    • Use your arrow keys to move to "Last Known Good Configuration" and press your Enter key.

    Peku-

Tried running last known configuration a few times, and also safe mode. No improvements in terms of being able to accomplish things, and I have also now lost the taskbar at the bottom of the screen (it looks like it does when hyou resize it, except i can't maximize it back up into view)

    Hi monsieurchouette

    does not sound good......try this

    Scan with exeHelper:

Please download exeHelper to your desktop.

    • Double-click on exeHelper.com to run the fix.
    • A black window should pop up, press any key to close once the fix is completed.
    • Post the contents of exehelperlog.txt (Will be created in the directory where you ran exeHelper.com, and should open at the end of the scan)

Note: If the window shows a message that says "Error deleting file", please re-run the program before posting a log - and post the two logs together (they will both be in the one file).

    Thanks peku006

    Hi monsieurchouette

We will continue with ComboFix.exe. Please visit this webpage for download links, and instructions for running the tool:
This tool is not a toy and not for everyday use.
ComboFix SHOULD NOT be used unless requested by a forum helper

    http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/comb...o-use-combofix

Ensure you have disabled all anti virus and anti malware programs so they do not interfere with the running of ComboFix.
If you need help to disable your protection programs see here.

When finished, it will produce a log for you. Please include the C:\ComboFix.txt in your next reply

    Thanks peku006

    Hi monsieurchouette

Download Win32kDiag.exe by a_d_13 from Here & save the file to your desktop.
    • Click Start->Run Then copy/paste the following command (the bolded text) into the Run box & click OK:

      "%userprofile%\desktop\win32kdiag.exe" -f -r
    • When it's finished, there will be a log called Win32kDiag.txt on your desktop. Copy/ paste the contents of the log & post in your next reply.

    Thanks peku006
