slow startup spybot

Hi - I have 500 ram, 40gb disk, xpsp3 - I just loaded spys&d on it and it is super slow on startup, update download & scan. I tried some of your suggestions regarding "spybot doesn't run" and it seemed a little faster - I guess it's just not enough ram to run much faster and I must be patient. I scanned for malware and don't seem to have any. It took 70 minutes to scan 732,000 items. Just wondering. Thank you.

Your RAM could be the reason, yes.
Which CPU do you have?
Were all other programs closed when you ran Spybot?
