Can I install Spybot 1.4 over 1.3?

Haven't updated in a while and saw 1.4 available for download. I was curious if there will be any problems if I install 1.4 over 1.3. Should I uninstall 1.3 first then install 1.4?

I'd suggest uninstalling 1.3 first,before installing 1.4.

1.3 worked perfectly for me on Win95 for a long time. However, the last def updates slowed my system to a crawl. I figured it was time to move up to 1.4. Since the (download?) page said 1.4 works with all Win OS, I didn't dig any deeper and thus overlooked the alert on another page that warns of a known problem with Win95. My bad.

I downloaded 1.4, DELETED 1.3 (rather than overwriting it), installed 1.4. Now, on startup, I get this error msg:
Error Starting Program
SPYBOTSD.EXE file is linked to a missing export
USER32.DLL:EndMenu

The program then aborts.

Since the warning page suggests USING 1.3 for now, I'm surprised there's no hyperlink right there to wherever one should go to download it. please advise - WHERE is it?? Of course, I might be overlooking something, so thankew muchly for pointing me in the right direction.

Spybot-S&D 1.4 is not runnning on Windows 95. The next version will again be fully compatible. Please use Spybot-S&D 1.3; Winsock update necessary - details

If you need to reinstall Spybot-S&D 1.3 and do not have the spybotsd13.exe installation program, try downloading the spybotsd13.exe installation program from here:

Been out of the office, so I apologize for a very tardy thankew.

With a 30-year teaching and computing background, I agree with your quote - "Getting an answer is one thing, learning is another."

Trouble is, in a world where the only thing unfortunately shared by most software documentation and web site layouts alike is a lack of standardization and intuitiveness, finding answers isn't always easy. I've answered quite a few "dumb" questions that are repeatedly posted on forums (random acts of kindness, so to speak). For the sake of expediency I occasionally throw up my hands and ask my own dumb questions rather than waste much valuable time pouring over reams of verbiage and running through byzantine dead end mazes trying to find an answer. Kudos to helpful forum gurus everywhere who cut through the fog. Thanks again. I'm up and running again, awaiting Version 1.5(?)
