Windows installer keeps popping up

A window saying "windows installer" and then "Preparing to install..." keeps popping up every few seconds on my desktop pc. Its a Dell Dimension e520 running windows xp media center edition sp3. I scanned for malware with malwarebytes antimalware and found nothing. I tried to install windows installer cleanup but it says that an installer is already running and i have to complete that install first. I can't remove office either for the same reason. Booting in safe mode didnt change anything. I would really appreciate some help. Thanks

I believe my problem is fixed. I uninstalled comodo firewall which seemed to be blocking some sort of partial install. Then I uninstalled a program called SPSS. Now, no more windows installer popping up. Thank goodness. Doesn't look like it was malware after all
