Question Cannot create file "C:\windows\System32\drivers\etc\hosts" error

    Hi all,

I apologize if I'm posting this in the wrong spot.

I've been experiencing a slow computer, redirects when using browser, and some IE errors as well.

When I run Spybot, it finds 18 items:

    Fraud.WindowsProtectionSuite (15 entries Malware)
    Microsoft.Windows.RedirectedHosts (3 entries SecurityC)

When try to fix, get following error:

Unexpected error in fixing problems (Cannot create file "C:\windows\System32\drivers\etc\hosts". Access is denied)

How do I get around this and/or move forward to delete the malware?

Thank you in advance for any help you can offer!

    Hello sem825,

Please see this FAQ, "BEFORE you POST"(READ this Procedure BEFORE Requesting Assistance)

Then start a new thread and copy paste the HJT log into it.

If HJT won't run please start a new topic anyway, make note of the situation and a volunteer analyst will advise you when available.

    Best regards.
