    Default antivirus soft malware problem

    Hi there. I need some help with this new issue I have just began having. I was on the internet via mozilla firefox when I received a message by spybot that a registry had been changed and asked if I wanted to allow it or deny it. I denied it, but then noticed that a new green icon had appeared in my toolbar at the bottom of my computer telling me that my computer was infected and a scan was in order. I stupidly allowed it to scan and it kept asking me if I wanted to block the impending trojan virus. I did press block it once. After doing that, the "new" program seems to be causing a lot of trouble with my computer.

    Hi there,

    Download DDS and save it to your desktop from here or here or here.
    Disable any script blocker, and then double click dds.scr to run the tool.
    • When done, DDS will open two (2) logs:
      1. DDS.txt
      2. Attach.txt
    • Save both reports to your desktop. Post them back to your topic.


    Download GMER here by clicking download exe -button and then saving it your desktop:
    • Double-click .exe that you downloaded
    • Click rootkit-tab and then scan.
    • Don't check
      Show All
      box while scanning in progress!
    • When scanning is ready, click Copy.

    Seems that you didn't run complete scan with GMER. Please go to rootkit tab and deselect sections & devices before clicking scan -button. Then let it finish the scan.

    I ran GMER as you asked and it only came up with a text box that said "no system modifications could be found". I hope that helps.

    Seems pretty short. One thing I was unclear on was whether the "show all" box should be checked. Your instructions indicated to not check it while a scan was in progress, but did not indicate whether it should or shouldn't be checked before starting the scan.

    Sorry it took so long to come back... doing anything after the scan is difficult since it seems that then my computer grinds to a halt (I had to halt a few processes just to post this, one was GoogleDesktop.exe and the other was a process starting with avg).

    I'll scan again with the box check and post if anything is different. Thanks again for taking the time to help me with this debilitating issue.

    No need to re-run GMER


    Please visit this webpage for download links, and instructions for running ComboFix tool:

    Please ensure you read this guide carefully first.

    Please continue as follows:

    1. Close/disable all anti virus and anti malware programs so they do not interfere with the running of ComboFix, link
      Remember to re-enable them afterwards.

    2. Click Yes to allow ComboFix to continue scanning for malware.


    When the tool is finished, it will produce a report for you.

    Please include the following reports for further review, and so we may continue cleansing the system:

    C:\ComboFix.txt
    New dds log.

    A word of warning: Neither I nor sUBs are responsible for any damage you may have caused your machine by running ComboFix. This tool is not a toy and not for everyday use.
