    Default No newer updates available?

Hi, I just installed and when I check for updates, using any server, I get the notice that no newer updates available. I know this is not true, because it is a fresh install. Is there an issue going on? Help! Thanks

During the installation of Spybot-S&D the installation wizard (Step5 of 7) gave you the option to "Search for updates", if you did that you probably updated with the latest detection files.

Go into Spybot > Help > About. Does the screen say?
    • Spybot - Search & Destroy 1.4
      Latest detection update: 2006-07-07

Go into Spybot and run a scan. At the completion of the scan right click on the results and select "Copy to clipboard". Past the results into a document and see of the file list in the results look like this (bold entries indicate items that should be checked):
    • --- Spybot - Search & Destroy version: 1.4 (build: 20050523) ---

      2005-05-31 blindman.exe (1.0.0.1)
      2005-05-31 SpybotSD.exe (1.4.0.3)
      2005-05-31 TeaTimer.exe (1.4.0.2)
      2006-07-11 unins000.exe (51.41.0.0)
      2005-05-31 Update.exe (1.4.0.0)
      2006-02-06 advcheck.dll (1.0.2.0)
      2005-05-31 aports.dll (2.1.0.0)
      2005-05-31 borlndmm.dll (7.0.4.453)
      2005-05-31 delphimm.dll (7.0.4.453)
      2005-05-31 SDHelper.dll (1.4.0.0)
      2006-02-20 Tools.dll (2.0.0.2)
      2005-05-31 UnzDll.dll (1.73.1.1)
      2005-05-31 ZipDll.dll (1.73.2.0)
      2006-07-07 Includes\Cookies.sbi
      2006-07-07 Includes\Dialer.sbi
      2006-07-07 Includes\Hijackers.sbi
      2006-07-07 Includes\Keyloggers.sbi
      2006-07-07 Includes\Malware.sbi
      2006-07-07 Includes\PUPS.sbi
      2006-07-07 Includes\Revision.sbi
      2006-07-07 Includes\Security.sbi
      2006-07-07 Includes\Spybots.sbi
      2005-02-17 Includes\Tracks.uti
      2006-07-07 Includes\Trojans.sbi

If so Spybot has been updated.

Getting an answer is one thing, learning is another.

Default Same problem but not a new installation

I am having the same problem and this is not a new installation. The last update I have recorded (according to the About screen in my app) is 2006-06-02. Is there a problem with the update mechanism or do I have something potentially blocking?

Hi, I did not Search for Updates during install. About page says No Detection Updates Installed. I also tried updating on a different machine that I have not used in about a month, and it says no newer updates available. Perhaps the date on the update file that has been distributed is wrong or something like that? Thanks

Default Installed to a usb drive and got the 7/7 update

I installed a new version to a key drive (USB Drive) and got the 2006-07-07 update and am now scanning from the key drive. How can I ensure it is scanning my C: drive instead of just the key drive? Also, I think there may be some malware targeting spyware S&D, if this scan turns up something, I'll post it here.

After reading this thread i would agree, the above post would not fix your issue.

Mine either, as I am having the exact same results on three new installations on three different machines. One is a brand new system, no connection problems, no malware, no viruses...

any thoughts on a problem with safer-networking.org mirror/servers?

anybody else with this issue? how many of you have tested a new installation scenario?

    Thanks.

Default Reinstalled and now have the updated version

I did a reinstall onto my hard drive and it now shows the updated detection rules. Make sure when you install that you check the box asking to update with the latest detection rules.

I've been trying to instal SB&D on my new laptop but when I get to "search for problems" I get this flag up saying I need to check for new updates but when I do, another flag tells me "You need to install the detection updates first by using the integrated update or the manual updater"

Problem: When I use the updater it says 'no new updates' and I have no idea what the manual updater is!!

    Anyone got any suggestions?

Hi, I tried amwheeler's suggestion and it worked. Uninstall, reboot, reinstall. Be sure to choose "Install updates immediately" (or something like that - it's a checkbox) during the install. It updated for me during the install. Now, I would say there still might be a problem with the updating from within the application. We won't know until there is another update, then we can try it.
