(As you may have noticed, my progress has slowed down a little bit. It's not that I've become disinterested in the process! Our 7-year-old granddaughter is staying with us for a couple weeks at a time this summer, and so a bit of my geek time has given way to Boppa time .)
It's good to have some time off from computer

Shall wait for further status update on Monday then. You too have a nice weekend

Question progress - in a fashion

    Hi Blade,

Scans continue to come back clean. I am currently working on Secunia's recommendations, which include plenty of updates. I'll keep you posted.

    Thanks!

    Question update

    Hi Blade,

I hope you still have a team in the World Cup you are cheering for.

scans continue to show no ill. We had to give our grand-daughter back yesterday :-( , but at least I'll have more time for Secunia, et al.

Yep, Brazil is (hopefully after this evening too) still in . I just hope referees make better decisions from now on.

    Question another question

    Hi Blade,

Scans continue to come back clean.

While following Secunia's to-do list, I have encountered a group of Microsoft update recommendations that I am unable to act upon:

(note: the following were edited for brevity. In the actual scan, the lists of KBs are hyperlinks, and the same link always appeared multiple times in succession. The number of times varied.)

    *******
This installation of Microsoft Outlook Express 6 is insecure and potentially exposes your system to security threats!

Your system does not have all security related patches from Microsoft installed. Please see list below for details about the missing patches.

    and

When I click on the links, I am taken to the appropriate knowledge base page, such as http://support.microsoft.com/kb/978542/. The page has a link for obtaining the update. However. that link takes me to http://update.microsoft.com/microsoftupdate, which does not download the corresponding patch.

    What to do?

    Big Thanks,

It would be recommended to install offered Microsoft related updates via Windows Update (that's listed before Secunia step on the final steps list I gave you).

    Default almost there

    Hi Blade,

Many thanks for your continued mentoring/coaching. At this point, I have done everything on the list (using Comodo for my firewall) except the patches I mentioned above. I'm thinking the Microsoft Update application thinks those KBs are unnecessary (perhaps their function has been superseded by another KB). Is there a way to confirm that, or should we just take their word for it, or am I missing something altogether? After all, I am...

    Hi,

If you've installed all important updates available in Windows Update then it should be fine

    Smile So Blade...

...scans continue to produce no malfeasance, and I've realized we may very well have reached the point where my virtual training wheels can go in the closet.

In the six weeks or so since you took me under your wing I have received some of the best coaching _of my life_ , regardless of subject matter. I thank you very, Very, VERY much, and hope that Providence repays you and your Karma seven-fold.

    All the best,
