Spybot-S&D is not an anti virus program. The application searches for spyware, malware, adware, trojans, hijackers and keyloggers.

New definitions are generally released every Wednesday.

    Best regards.

I've never heard of an antivirus program that didn't need at a minimum daily updates.

    Default AntiVirus

With the large number of modified viruses and trojans happening everyday,
any decent antivirus vendor will update daily. Even with daily updates, zero-day
new viruses, may still evade detection. Those, are after all, brand new and need analysis to create protection against them. This takes time. No one is able
to see the future and predict what the virus writers will do in the future.

Such is life in the digital world.
