    Default Speed and Load Problems

I am experiencing very slow performance with the computer in general and specifically very bad performance on the internet. Firefox problems include "problem loading page" and offline messages, even though it is online. sometimes the "work offline" item is checked and I have to uncheck it. Pages load unformatted or partial load with missing graphics or other content. I uninstalled Firefox and reinstalled after deleting the addons directories as suggested by Firefox. Same and worsening issues, having to reload pages or restart Firefox. Sometimes it seem the issue is with Firefox, though symptoms appear at other times, too, just more often with web use. Norton and Spybot don't find anything. Thank you for your assistance.

    Hi,

Minimum recommendation of RAM for Vista is 1GB. Seems that you don't have that much installed -> performance is not as smooth as on systems with more RAM.

Anyway, please post contents of attach.txt log too.

    Default attach file compressed

Yes, I have 1GB memory, originally installed.
    Do you recommend increasing?

I have attached the attach.txt, compressed.

    Thank you.

More RAM would probably give some performance boost. Hard drive defragmenting is also recommended if not done lately.

You have some outdated software there. Download and run Secunia Personal Software Inspector (PSI) and fix its findings.

    Default updated

Norton defrags automatically every few days.

I updated the programs using Secunia and scanned again - it found similar needs to update, but actually finding older versions than I have. But the #5 category "threats" were eliminated.

I see a little improvement in web performance and fewer Firefox loading errors, but have seen the plugin basket error that many complain about. I know there is a lot of security monitoring between Firefox and Norton, so may this add to the slowdown and possibly the load errors too? (again, along with possible need for more memory?)

    Hi,

I don't use Norton myself so can't say how it works together with Firefox. Anyway, older Norton versions are pretty resource demanding.

    Thumbs up improved

I added 2G memory and see video improvement, though still interrupted for reloading, etc. The software updates helped too.

    Thank you for your assistance.

    though still interrupted for reloading,etc
If those are online videos then connection itself affects too.
