    Default Spybot S&D does not display scan results

    During Spybot (version 1.6.2) scanning of my PC (Windows XP), the computer screen froze after completing only an estimated 3% of the whole scanning process. I had to force quit by manually shutting down the PC.

    After restarting, I scanned again. This time it seemed to complete the entire scanning process but the final screen, which normally displays the scanning results, was a blank page with only "Spybot S&D" displayed at the top. I could minimize or maximize the screen but nothing else happened. "Task Manager" (Ctrl-Alt-Delete) showed two listings of Spybot S&D as "not responding". I was able to close the Spybot tabs with the mouse cursor without having to shut down the PC. I repeated at least two more times of Spybot scanning. Each time produced the same result -- a final balnk page that showed no scan results. I would appreciate to hearing from any one why this had happened and what the solution is.

    I attempted to address the problem by reloading Spybot from Safer-Networking and by retarting the PC. None of these approaches had worked. [Please note, I did not remove the existing Spybot 1.6.2 from the PC before downloading it again from Safer-Networking, in order to avoid doing some thing unknowingly that could further complicate the situation.]

    I do not know if a recent updating of my Microsoft security program has any thing to do with the Spybot malfunction. On 10/12/10, two days before the aforesaid incident of Spybot malfunctioning, I updated the PC with security patches or files (14 of them in total) freshly released by MSFT to protect against potential threats from a Stuxnet and other viruses. I recall that Spybot worked all right some time before the MSFT updating. Could it be that the MSFT files are not compatible with Spybot or could it be the two incidence just a coincidence? Does any one out there has had the same experience?

    Default Same Issue

    You are not the only one who is having this problem. Lately when I run a scan with Spybot (Version 1.6.2) on my PC (Windows XP SP3), the screen will turn white. Task Manager will state that the application is 'non-responsive'. I'm also running Avira AntiVir Personal (The Free Version) and COMODO Firewall Pro. I'm in the same boat as you. I have no clue why this is happening all of a sudden. If anybody has a solution, please let us know. Thanks.

    Hello,

    1. It is recommended to delete all temporary files.
    To delete the temp files you can use the secure shredder within Spybot S&D:

    * start Spybot S&D
    * switch to advanced mode
    * navigate to tools - secure shredder
    * select from Templates "add files from Temp folder"
    * click on "chop it away!" to delete the files

    Unless deactivated Spybot S&D will also ask you before a scan if you want to purge the temp files. You can find this setting in advanced mode in settings - settings - automation - "offer to clean the temporary files folder"

    Or you delete your temp files with the Temp File Cleaner
    Here is the direct download link.

    2. Please disable all other security programs that you run and close all other programs during the work with Spybot - Search & Destroy.

    3. Also run a scan in safe mode.

    4. It should also help to deactivate the scanning for usage tracks and Cookies.
    Please run Spybot-S&D and switch to "Advanced mode" via the menu bar item "Mode". Now select "Settings" --> "File Sets" in the navigation bar on the left. The checkboxes in front of "Usage tracking, Beta.uti, NewTracks.uti and Tracks.uti" have to be unticked if you do not want to find usage tracks anymore. For excluding Cookies from the search deactivate the checkbox in front of Cookies.sbi.

    Best regards

    Okay, I unticked the Cookies tracking as you said. I'm about to run my scan again within Safe Mode. By the way, I also deleted all my temp files.

    Same result. When scanning with Spybot in Safe Mode, the application crashes upon finishing its scan. When I checked the official report it said everything was fine:

    I followed your directions before. Could the problem be a software glitch? Is there something else that I'm missing?

    Hello,

    Please download the latest detection update (2010/10/20).
    This should fix it.
    Or choose the direct installation file.

    Best regards
