    Default Update crashes

    Hi!

Each Saturday morning I my system maintenance tasks. One of those is to use SpyBot's built-in updater to update SpyBot just before doing a system scan.

Up until recently I've never had a problem with this but the last two weeks the update crashes with a memory cannot be read error immediately after downloading the last file.

This concerns me because now I'm not sure if the update completed successfully or not so I have to download and run the manual update just to be sure.

Has anyone else seen this behavior and if so is there a way to fix it?

    Thanks!

    Hello,

    1. Which error message do you get exactly?
    2. How did you shedule your updates? With the sheduler within Spybot?
    3. Which operating system do you use?
    4. To see which version number and/or updates of Spybot - Search & Destroy you are using please run Spybot-S&D and choose "Help" --> "About" in the menu bar.
There you can see which version you have and which updates are installed.
It should be version 1.6.2 and the updates from the 2010/10/13.

It says it tried to read memory that couldn't be read. As luck would have it, it didn't crash today... The next time it does crash I'll capture the exact message and post it here.

I don't schedule it, I do it manually each Saturday morning by clicking the "Search for Updates" button on SpyBot's main screen.

Windows XP Home SP3 with all updates.

After a long time with no crashes, today it crashed again immediately after finishing downloading the last update file.

Here is the error message I got:

    ---------------------------
    Spybot - Search & Destroy: SpybotSD.exe - Application Error
    ---------------------------
The instruction at "0x00504d8a" referenced memory at "0xfffffffc". The memory could not be "read".

Click on OK to terminate the program
Click on CANCEL to debug the program
    ---------------------------
    OK Cancel
    ---------------------------
Help, About shows version 1.6.2.46 with update 1/5/2011

    Hello,

Then you already have the latest update.
We release updates once a week, usually on Wednesdays.
The latest update was on the 2011/01/05.

That's what it says but because of the crash I have to wonder if the files weren't corrupted in some way by the crash, so when it happens I always manually download and install the update to be sure the files are intact.

But that's not the point of this thread, the point is to report the crash in the hopes that it can be fixed.
