What does this look like and how can you tell if it is running or on your machine? I never see it. There is a little icon in my left hand side which shows a page and a padlock - is that TeaTimer?

If the little icon showing the page and the padlock is located down by your computer clock,then yes,that is teatimer,and it is running.
If you rightclick the icon,and select About,a window should pop up titled About Teatimer,and if you select Help,a window should come up with a small paragraph telling you a little bit about it.
