which service packs would you recommend I download ?

& i do not use a firewall i think at this time,
please recomeend which firewall i should download ?

If you do not have a service pack on Windows XP it is very possible the computer is infected.

Automatic Updates is usually enabled by default, did you change the settings? How long has it been since you updated the operating system?
