The following instructions have been created to help you to get rid of "Toolbar.Facemood" manually.
Use this guide at your own risk; software should usually be better suited to remove malware, since it is able to look deeper.

Description:
Toolbar.Facemood installs a toolbar in the Internet Explorer and in the Mozilla Firefox, changes the start page of both browsers and changes the default searchbar in the browser. Additionally it displays advertisement and offers the possibility to add fun icons to mails. If the user installs Toolbar.Facemood he has to agree that CPU und bandwidth can be used by Toolbar.Facemood and personal information like used browsers, language, operating system and IP-Address get stored.
Removal Instructions:

Autorun:

Please use Spybot-S&D, RunAlyzer or msconfig.exe to remove the following autorun entries.
  • Entries named "facemoods" and pointing to "?<$PROGRAMFILES>\facemoods.com\facemoods\*\facemoodssrv.exe*".

Installed Software List:

You can try to uninstall products with the names listed below; for items identified by other properties or to avoid malware getting active again on uninstallation, use Spybot-S&D or RunAlyzer to locate and get rid of these entries.
  • Products that have a key or property named "facemoods".

Files:

Please use Windows Explorer or another file manager of your choice to locate and delete these files.
  • The file at "<$PROGRAMFILES>\Mozilla Firefox\searchplugins\fcmdSrch.xml".
Make sure you set your file manager to display hidden and system files. If Toolbar.Facemood uses rootkit technologies, use our RootAlyzer or our Total Commander anti-rootkit plugins.
You will have to use a global search for files without a name specified. Be extra careful, because just the name might not be enough to identify files!

Important: There are more files that cannot be safely described in simple words. Please use Spybot-S&D to remove them.

  • The directory at "<$APPDATA>\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\fnt1gxms.default\extensions\ffxtlbr@Facemoods.com\components".
  • The directory at "<$APPDATA>\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\fnt1gxms.default\extensions\ffxtlbr@Facemoods.com\content\images".
  • The directory at "<$APPDATA>\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\fnt1gxms.default\extensions\ffxtlbr@Facemoods.com\content\preferences".
  • The directory at "<$APPDATA>\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\fnt1gxms.default\extensions\ffxtlbr@Facemoods.com\content".

  • Delete the registry key "{FFDF9EF3-3C3A-4f05-9A6E-5D3B778EC567}" at "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Low Rights\ElevationPolicy\".
  • Delete the registry key "facemoods.com" at "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\".
  • Delete the registry key "facemoods.com" at "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\".
  • Delete the registry key "ihflimipbcaljfnojhhknppphnnciiif" at "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Google\chrome\Extensions\".
  • Delete the registry value "{DB4E9724-F518-4dfd-9C7C-78B52103CAB9}" at "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Toolbar\".
If Toolbar.Facemood uses rootkit technologies, use our RegAlyzer, RootAlyzer or our Total Commander anti-rootkit plugins.

Browser:
