    Hi,

    I then tried to install Acrobat reader 10
    But did you uninstall previous versions first? You have to do that before installing version 10. If that's done see the steps below.

    Click Start, Run and type regedit.exe and go to following location:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\CLASSES\.pdx\PDXFileType\ShellNew

    On the Edit menu(Right click on ShellNew Folder), click Permissions.

    Select your user account from the list, and ensure that Full Control permissions is set to Allow.

    Select Administrators group from the list, and give then Full Control permissions.

    Click the Advanced button

    Select Replace permission entries on all child objects with entries shown here that apply to child objects.

    Deselect Inherit from parent the permission entries that apply to child objects. Include these with entries explicitly defined here

    Click Apply, and then click Yes when you are prompted to continue. Click OK, and then click OK again.

    Exit the Registry editor.

    See if you're able to install Adobe Reader now (if still error appears post back a screenshot of it).

    Default Adobe Reader uninstall

    Sorry, I forgot to mention that Adobe Reader was not listed in the Add Delete tool in the control pane (see screen shot attached).

    I followed the steps to change permissions in regedit as you instructed.

    I have in the Program Files folder under Acrobat Reader are two files which I can't change permissions on. They are at:
    c-->program files-->Adobe-->Reader 9.0-->Resource-->Cmap-->Identity-H
    c-->program files-->Adobe-->Reader 9.0-->Resource-->Cmap-->Identity-V

    Default Adobe Reader uninstall pt 2

    I forgot to mention that I am still receiving the same error message when I try to install Acrobat Reader 10. The screen shot of the error message is still the same 1402 error.

    Hi,

    Download & extract this file to it's own folder - Registry Search

    Launch Registry Search
    In the search box, enter (on separate lines)

    .pdx\PDXFileType\ShellNew

    Under Search, make sure only the Value box is checked in the first row of checkboxes. All other checkboxes should be checked.

    & click Ok. Notepad will open with some text in it (the file will also be saved in the program's folder as well).
    Post this text in your next reply.

    Hi,

    Please leave other checkboxes checked under "Search" too. Then run a new search.
