How do updates work?

According to the post here updates are automatic. How does this work?

I did a manual update last week when I installed Spybot to make sure that it was up to date. It is now over 7 days since that update but Spybot has not been updated with this week's updates. Is this correct? When will Spybot update?

How about an update for the program itself?

I have been waiting for well over a year for the new version of Spybot S&D, only to have the current BETA fail miserably.

I'm confused.

I posted my question on 27 May 2011. Why are you talking about the 1 June 2011 updates? Shouldn't Spybot have automatically updated to the 25 May 2011 updates at some time?

Spybot is still running with the 18 May 2011 updates and the last update message is showing 19 May 2011. How can this be right if the automatic updates are working?

For now, try manually downloading the updates here: http://www.safer-networking.org/en/spybotsd/index.html

Also turn off the automatic update service, and in the Windows Services control area, set that service to Manual
