Threat Details:

Categories:
  • trojan

Description:
Bancos.prx pretends to be a harmless file like a picture to get executed. It connects to its malicious servers in background and tries to hide as a Windows system file to compromise the computer. It also uses the Internet Explorer to secretly contact its malicious servers and accquire banking data.
Removal Instructions:

Autorun:

Please use Spybot-S&D, RunAlyzer or msconfig.exe to remove the following autorun entries.
  • Entries named "svchosts" and pointing to "C:\WINDOWS\system32\svchosts.exe".

Files:

Please use Windows Explorer or another file manager of your choice to locate and delete these files.
  • A file with an unknown location named "imagem.exe".
  • The file at "c:\A3.0.txt".
Make sure you set your file manager to display hidden and system files. If Bancos.prx uses rootkit technologies, use our RootAlyzer or our Total Commander anti-rootkit plugins.
You will have to use a global search for files without a name specified. Be extra careful, because just the name might not be enough to identify files!

Registry:

You can use regedit.exe (included in Windows) to locate and delete these registry entries.
  • Remove "<regexpr>http://[a-z] \.com/thumbnails/[a-z] \.pac" from registry value "AutoConfigURL" at "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings\".
If Bancos.prx uses rootkit technologies, use our RegAlyzer, RootAlyzer or our Total Commander anti-rootkit plugins.
