    Exclamation Help please!!

Hi everyone, I,m brand new to this forum and this is my first post, so apologies if this is in the wrong location. Having only got broadband a couple of days ago I have started updating some of the larger programmes on my PC
that took an age to download on a dial-up modem. I want to use IE8 on my
XP system but when I download the IE8 programme from the Microsoft site
as soon as I try to install it Spybot S&D blocks my attempts. I have downloaded IE8 three different times, always with the same result. S&D says
the programme is suspect. How can this be for a genuine microsoft download?
More to the point, how the heck can I get round this problem? The only
option I see is to ignore the S&D warnings which apparently is not advised.

Can anyone sort this for me?

Funny? I thought the idea of forums like this was to help one another. At this
time 64 people have viewed my appeal for help but not one of you seems able to assist. As it happens I've found someone who has sorted the problem
for me, and believe it or not they live next door!

Sorry, but the lack of interest puzzles me.

Your topic was started Sunday, the weekend. Also view counts on a topic means little, even people using search engines count as a view. It does not mean you have been ignored.

For everyone's benefit how was the issue resolved?

    Best regards.

    Default Help please cont'

    Hi tashi,

Sorry, but I can't really explain how this was fixed. My neighbour is an IT
manager at a local college so I don't know why I didn't think of him in the first place! All I can say is he did something connected with Microsoft's
automatic update service and he downloaded a load of updates that I didn't have. That's not to say I had missed them but apparentlly not all updates
are classed as critical so are not automatically downloaded. It seems IE8
is one of those items and we got it with a whole load of other updates and then installed it from there. Even with my new broadband connection it took several hours to download and install the lot!.

Anyway thanks for your reply and I hope my explanation is clear enough.
