    Hi,

I'm wondering if those issues are caused by possible hardware problem.

Please download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware to your desktop.

    • Double-click mbam-setup.exe and follow the prompts to install the program.
    • At the end, be sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
    • If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
    • Once the program has loaded, select Perform full scan, then click Scan.
    • When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
    • Be sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
    • When completed, a log will open in Notepad. Please save it to a convenient location.
    • Please post contents of that file in your next reply.

I was wondering that too, but it seems strange that it would run completely fine in safe mode, but freeze when it boots normally, at any rate, I'm running Malwarebytes now.

I tried to run Malwarebytes twice, the computer got about 70-80k files into the scan and then the computer froze, both times. I'd estimate that it happened around the same time, so it's probably not coincidence.

    Hi,

Try to run disk check by following method 2 here. See if it finds any issues.

I followed the instructions on the webpage, restarted and let the disk check run. It found no errors, the entire process took about 10 seconds, much faster than I expected for that sort of thing. Windows booted normally, and promptly froze a few minutes later. I had both boxes checked, if that means anything.

    Hi,

Let's defrag the hard drive. For defragging I'd use 3rd party solution. Good commercial ones are PerfectDisk and Diskeeper. Of free options I recommend MyDefrag and Piriform Defraggler.

I ran the defrag and restarted, but it made no difference, are you saying that there are no traces of malware on the system?

Because I understand that you're probably busy, and you don't have to waste time walking me through troubleshooting steps . I could have the computer looked at by an expert if the problem isn't due to malware. I was just hoping it was something that I could get fixed over a couple of days because I have no idea what's wrong with it.

    Hi,

Let's try a couple of more things. First, see if you're able to run a quick scan with MBAM. After that try to run ESET online scanner.

    * Go here to run an online scanner from ESET.
    • Note: You will need to use Internet explorer for this scan
    • Tick the box next to YES, I accept the Terms of Use.
    • Click Start
    • When asked, allow the activex control to install
    • Click Start
    • Make sure that the option Remove found threats is UNchecked and the option Scan unwanted applications is checkmarked.
    • Click Scan
    • Wait for the scan to finish. Copy paste findings back here (if anything found).
