Default Beta 4 still not updating

I've just installed v2.0.6 (Beta 4) and the automatic updating still isn't working. See http://forums.spybot.info/showthread.php?t=63323 and http://forums.spybot.info/showthread...63537&p=410394 for past reports. This is on a Windows XP SP3 PC.

SDUpdSvc.exe is running according to Task Manager as a SYSTEM task and the Updates.log has been updated but Spybot is still showing "No update attempt registered!"

I've sent all this information in bug reports for the last 3 betas and nothing has happened, nor does the logging appear to have been improved (the only way that I can see that this will be solved), so unless someone requests it, I'm not bothering making a bug report this time.

    Hello,

Thanks for testing the 2.0 Beta 4.

Did you wait some time to see if the updates are being downloaded?
If the process is running it should work.
Is it still reporting "no update attempt registered"?

If it still does not work you can try this:
In the area "Settings & More Tools" click on "Update".
There you can run an "Integrity Check" and "Update".

    Also check the scheduled tasks.
Click on the Spybot-S&D Start Center.
Then click on "Change Settings" and browse to the Schedule tab.

    Best regards

I ran my test PC with v2.0.6 installed for about 3 hours on Friday and another 3 hours today. There's still no sign of it updating.

In that time the test PC has run a number of distributed testing jobs, so it would appear that it can talk to Spybot.

How long should I have to wait for Spybot to update?

The SDUpdSvc.exe is running and has consumed 1 second of CPU time, but Spybot is still showing "No update attempt registered!"

What are you expecting me to see if I do this?

For example, are you expecting the Integrity Check and Update to show that the definitions are up to date, implying that it is just the Start Centre and tooltip messages that aren't being updated.

My understanding is that I don't need to schedule updates as SDUpdSvc.exe does this automatically, so I haven't set up any scheduled tasks (as that would just confuse the testing of the automatic updater).

    Have I misunderstood?

    Hello,

Yes, you did not set anything as scheduled, but we did - by default.
So please check the scheduler page.
    Thanks.

Please confirm that this is correct for custom installations where all the scheduling options are unchecked.

I'm afraid so. Or, to phrase is in another way, we might have described it in a misleading way.

SDUpdSvc.exe does not schedule updates, it just performs updates upon request. This has been moved into a service to make it possible to update even for non-admin users. The actual updating has to be triggered though, which the scheduled process for example would do.

    Thank you, thank you PepiMK!

I asked how the updates worked when the first beta came out and never got an answer. Since then I've raised this problem with every beta and haven't got a sensible answer until now. The best I've ever been told is that the updates are automatic and done by SDUpdSvc.exe.

I've now set up a schedule and the update has worked. Why has it taken this long?
