Question "Unloading user registry hives might take a while..."

Once in a while, SpyBot S&D v1.6.2.46 will freeze with "Unloading user registry hives might take a while..." message after scanning (nothing found) and exiting the program in my old, Windows XP Pro. SP3 machine. It's very rare though, but why does it happen?

http://i.imgur.com/inKqR.gif for the screen shot when it got stuck when exiting.

Process Explorer v15.05 on this spybot process: http://pastie.org/private/qtt0mp2u4tbx011fcb7bq

    Thank you in advance.

    Thumbs down

I saw it again on an updated 64-bit W7 HPE machine in its safe mode too! :(

    Hello,

How many users has your system?
The unloading is done by Windows, all we do is tell Windows to unload the registry hives we've previously loaded.
Or do you maybe have multiple Windows installations?

This thread in our forum should also help.

    Best regards

XP = Three (two administrators [one is default and other is mine] and guest), W2K SP4 (two administrators), 64-bit W7 HPE (two administrators). No firewalls. Remember it happened in W7's safe mode too.

Question Is it dangerous to exit when Spybot has hung up Unloading User Registry Hives?

    Hi,
I too am a novice. Bought a refurbished HP desktop and it is full of problems. I have scanned in safemode and 80 (yes 80!) problems found. 79 were fixed, to fix the last one message asked if ok for Spybot to fix after restarting. I said OK and then the blue top line appeared with "Unloading User Registry Hives may take a while." Task Manager says the program in running, but it has been over an hour and seems frozen.
Can I safely exit Spybot???? Version is 1.6.2.46.
Thanks to anyone who has more experience than me.
    Smiles Ari
