Default computer shut down during scan

My computer keeps shuttting down about 1/3 of the way through the scan.

The computer is a Dell power edge server O/S is windows professional.

I removed my old version of S&D and installed the current beta but the computer also shut down while scanning with the beta version.

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Tks

    Hello,

    1. I am sorry, but if you really want to work with Spybot-S&D you should use the final version Spybot-S&D 1.6.2. The 2.0 Beta is for testing ONLY and is NOT a replacement for the stable version Spybot-S&D 1.6.2.

I would recommend to uninstall the 2.0 Beta and then make a fresh installation of Spybot-S&D 1.6.2.
Therefore please choose the direct installation file.

    2. Spybot - Search & Destroy is quite CPU intensive. It is possible that the CPU overheating and the system is shutting down to protect the processor. Make sure that the fans are running and that dust is cleared from any ventilation ports in the case.

The problem can happen in both desktops and laptops, although the problem is more prevalent in laptops.

If you have a laptop with one of the one of the following processors:

    - Mobile Pentium III-M
    - Mobile Pentium 4-M
    - Mobile Pentium 4
    - Mobile Pentium M / Centrino
    - Mobile AMD

Take a look at following suggestion by 100mill:

Notebook CPU running hot during Spybot - Search & Destroy scan

If you have a desktop consider opening the case and checking to make sure the CPU heat sink is not too dusty. Doubt that this can be a problem, read the following threads:
