    Default Browser hijacked

Since late this afternoon, my Mozilla Firefox browser gets redirected to spammy, porny and other undesirable websites that I did not ask it to go to. I have run a Spybot S&D scan (nil problems) and have also run CCleaner. The problem nonetheless persists.

    Hi,

Have you checked if problem occurs only with Firefox or does it affect browsing with Internet Explorer too?

I am not able to reproduce the problem at this time, not on Firefox or on IE (which I don't use). I should add that it appears to emanate from one website, which was up to this time reliable, www.metcheck.com. Several users report picking up malware and redirects to malicious links when on the site.

I would appreciate it if you could indicate whether there is evidence of malware on my machine, using the information I supplied above.

    Hi,

I should add that it appears to emanate from one website, which was up to this time reliable, www.metcheck.com. Several users report picking up malware and redirects to malicious links when on the site.
Sounds that site was possibly hacked and booby trapped with malicious code. If it's ok now then they may have fixed it.

Logs didn't show malware but we can run an online scanner to see if it finds anything.

    * Go here to run an online scanner from ESET.
    • Note: You will need to use Internet explorer for this scan
    • Tick the box next to YES, I accept the Terms of Use.
    • Click Start
    • When asked, allow the activex control to install
    • Click Start
    • Make sure that the option Remove found threats is UNchecked and the option Scan unwanted applications is checkmarked.
    • Click Scan
    • Wait for the scan to finish. Copy-paste back the report (if anything was found).

Thanks. The ESET scan came back clean, and I've had no further instances of the problem elsewhere on the WWW.

    Thread closed.
