    Default Welcome!

Hi and welcome to Safer-Networking, sorry for any delay in answering your request for help.
My name is Diver79, and I will be helping you with your malware problems.

Before we start please note the following important guidelines.
    • The instructions given are for THIS computer only! Using these instructions on a different computer, can make it inoperable!
    • Please DO NOT run any other software or scans whilst I am helping you.

Note: If you haven't done so already, please ensure you have read the following article. "BEFORE You POST"(Please read this Procedure Before Requesting Assistance) where the conditions for receiving help here are explained.

    Hi Olgita,

Entries in the log lead me to believe this computer may connect to a business network. Please confirm whether or not this computer is a company-owned computer, a computer used for business or if it occasionally connects to a business network.

    MGA Diagnostic Tool Vista/Win7
    • Please download MGA Diagnostic Tool and save it to your Desktop.
    • Right click on MGADiag.exe and select Run As Administrator to run it.
    • Click Continue.
    • The program will run. It takes a while to finish the diagnosis, please be patient.
    • Once done, click on Copy.
    • Open Notepad and paste the contents in the window.
    • Save this file and copy/paste it in your next reply.

    Run CKScanner
    • Please download CKScanner from Here
    • Important: - Save it to your desktop.
    • Right-click CKScanner.exe > select " Run as administrator " then click Search For Files.
    • After a very short time, when the cursor hourglass disappears, click Save List To File.
    • A message box will verify the file saved. Please Run the program only once.
    • Double-click the CKFiles.txt icon on your desktop and copy/paste the contents in your next reply.

    Hi, thanks for the reply.
This is my personal laptop and is not used for business. It has never been connected to a business network. I looked at the control panel and 'home network' is the only network set up, so not sure why the log would indicate anything other than that.

Thanks again for taking the time to help!

    Hi Olgita,

    Thank you for the logs.

This is my personal laptop and is not used for business. It has never been connected to a business network. I looked at the control panel and 'home network' is the only network set up, so not sure why the log would indicate anything other than that.
The reason I ask is that you have Microsoft Office Enterprise edition installed on this machine. This version of Office is only available to Business' through volume license agreements.

Can you tell me how it came to be installed on your computer?

    Thanks,

    Hi,
I have purchased this program through my employer at a discounted price. It is part of 'Home Use Program' available to employees. The packaging is also labeled as 'home use program'.

    www.microsofthup.com
Also, if google 'microsoft home use program' there is a link there too.
Let me know if this is an issue. Thanks!

    Thats quite alright Olgita,

Now lets get on with looking for the infection

    TDSSKiller

Please download TDSSKiller.exe and save it to your Desktop.
    • Right click on TDSSKiller.exe and select Run as Administrator to launch it.
    • Click on Start Scan, the scan will run.
    • When the scan has finished, if it finds anything please click on the drop down arrow next to Cure and select Skip
    • Now click on Report to open the log file created by TDSSKiller in your root directory C:\
    • To find the log go to Start > Computer > C:
    • Post the contents of that log in your next reply please.
    • DO NOT TRY TO FIX ANYTHING AT THIS POINT

    aswMBR Scan
Please download aswMBR and save it to your Desktop.
    • Right click aswMBR.exe & choose "Run as Administrator" to run it.
    • Click Yes to the prompt to download Avast! virus definitions.
(Please be patient whilst the virus definitions download)
    • With the AVscan set to Quick Scan, click the Scan button.
(Please be patient whilst your computer is scanned.)
    • After a while when the scan reports "Scan finished successfully", click Save log & save the log to your desktop.
    • Click OK > Exit.
    • Note: Do not attempt to fix anything at this stage!
    • Two files will be created, aswMBR.txt & a file named MBR.dat.
    • MBR.dat is a backup of the MBR(master boot record), do not delete it..
    • I strongly suggest you keep a copy of this backup stored on an external device.
    • Copy & Paste the contents of aswMBR.txt into your next reply.

    Hi,
I downloaded and saved to the desktop both programs, however, nothing happens when I click 'run as administrator'. -a message comes up whether I want to allow the program to make changes to my computer, and I click 'yes', but the program doesn't open.

    Thank you!

    Hi Olgita,

The infection may be preventing the tools from opening. We're going to try a different method to get them running. This requires that malwarebytes is installed, if you have uninstalled it please download it again.

Delete your existing copy of TDSSKiller and aswmbr.

Step 1. Download TDSSKiller.exe and aswmbr
    http://support.kaspersky.com/downloa...tdsskiller.exe
    http://public.avast.com/~gmerek/aswMBR.exe

Step 2. Place TDSSKiller.exe and aswmbr.exe in Malwarebytes Chameleon folder.
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\Chameleon

Step 3. Install the Chameleon driver by doing the following:
Press the Windows key + R and in the Run box, copy and paste the following command then press Enter.

    "C:\Program Files (x86)\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\Chameleon\mbam-chameleon.exe" /o"

A black DOS prompt will appear with a prompt to press any key to continue, please do.

Step 4. Execute TDSSKiller.exe and then aswmbr.exe from the chameleon folder using the previous instructions.

    Hi,
I followed the instructions, but still nothing...programs don't open. I right clicked and under 'properties/comatibility tab I tried switching to Windows 7, as default was Windows XP, but that didn't work either.

Also, Malwarebytes automatically started a scan and did not detect any objects.

    Anything else I can try?

    Thanks!
