Default Computer ate some bad popcorn.net

Sorry if this has been asked a million times...can't find anything searching the forum or site...

I have a friend who's infected with popcorn.net; I'd never heard of it before this, but from all I'm reading it sounds like a truly nasty piece of work.

Does spybot detect and remove it? If so, will it do so even if components have been removed (an add/remove programs has already been run, which apparently means that it is now uninstallable because a cancellation code was not entered prior to the remove).

If spybot doesn't, does anyone know of another program that does, or a set of reliable instructions for doing it manually? I've seen several sites that claim they know what they're doing, but I have no knowledge of their credentials/credibility.

Any help would be much appreciated. They're completely screwed at the moment, can't get past the startup screen to even get on the web.

    :(

At this time I would also remind our members that if another member contacts you via pm offering advice, that you take such advice at your own risk.

As with any advice given no matter who supplies it.

I had this and it was a total pain to remove. I didn't go through their site. I just don't really trust them.
