4 GB (!) log file ?

Good evening,

I have installed Spybot - Search & Destroy 2.1 (to be honest, I have no idea if I am using it, do I? I hope it helps me even if I do nothing, but if I need to do something, please, give me some advice or link ).

Recently, while I was deleting some things from my SSD (quite small one), I noticed that one of log files takes more than 3,5 GB of my disk-space!

This is:

C:\ProgramData\Spybot - Search & Destroy\Logs\Scanner.log

It's insides starts with:

SDFSSvc.exe [2013-11-14 13:35:16] 0.0.0.0  Successfully started listening on port 21323.

What is that for? Is it necessary? Why this have to take so much place? Can it be deleted or cut, or I shouldn't do this?

- yeah, same problem, Vista x86, log file expands endlessly with that one line repeating:

"SDFileScanLibrary.dll [date timestamp] Loaded databases."

Be nice if someone from support could answer this (yes, yes), however, meantime:

I cannot find any option for disabling logging in Spybot S & D, not look very hard tho, may well be one. Now, a 4GB logfile consisting of the same line repeated every second or so is no use to anyone. You can (of course) simply delete the log file:

C:\ProgramData\Spybot - Search & Destroy\Logs\Scanner.log

- (or equivalent location)

S & D will then, of course, simply start a new one. Watch it grow ;-)

At this point, you have two options -

(a) Disable / Uninstall S & D. Stops it creating log files alright , that does.

..Or..

(b) Right click on the file (Scanner.log), and make this file Read Only (checkbox at the bottom). Cannot swear this method has absolutely no long-term ill effects on the program either (tho it seems to still run fine), but it at least stops the damn log file expanding to the size of your hard drive

As said, is only a workaround in the absence of proper support. I figure it is an S & D bug, and I doubt we are the only two with it either, only, for sure, most people aren't investigating the size of their S & D log file very often, if ever, either..

I too have discovered this problem.

I'm running Spybot 2.2.25.0 on Windows 8.1 and found a 7GB log file while clearing out some stuff.

For other sufferers, I have found a (non-optimal) solution, which is disabling the 'Scanner Service' portion of the app.
To do this, I went to the start center, checked the 'Advanced User Mode' checkbox, and went to the setting dialog. Then I went to the 'System Services', disabled the Scanner service, and unchecked the start on boot box

I too would like to see this fixed,
