SpyBot won't shut down

Hi, my mom is running SpyBot on her Vista Laptop. Until recently it worked fine. However of late she can do a scan, but cannot shut the program down..... it simply ignores a mouse click on the X and does not show up in Task Manager. Unfortunately I am not by her computer (and won't be for several days--in case more info is needed) but, any ideas on what might be causing this? TIA

I deleted it and reinstalled the latest version (which I thought I had in the past.) After rebooting, Spybot did shut down. It took a few seconds..... so I clicked on the shutdown X and in about 10 seconds, Spybot closed. So, for now, it is working. Thanks for your time. Will reopen the thread if it stops shutting down again.
