    Default Command Service

    Hitsory:

Thought I would do a good deed for a friend who was having problems with her PC. She could no longer connect to the net. Initially thought shw just lost her connection so had her try a ping from cmd prmpt. she could not get to a command prompt so I now have her pc running all the "usual suspects".

I ran Ad-aware and spybot S&D and both had problems that could not be corrected. Of note was in spybot - Command Service. I've been searching the site and have concluded that I need help from someone who REALLY knows what their doing.

    BEFORE you POST steps:

    1) Online Scan - Having a really hard time running an online scanner as the connection that I was finally able to establish is spotty at most. I was able to get through a scan at housecall.trend.com which showed a boat load of trojan and malware entries. I was unable to use their corrrection tools or to save any log due to the spotty connection. I did, however run mcafee stinger which did find and delete one virus. Are their any other virus tools that can be run from my flash drive?

    2) Safe Mode spybot scan - same as usual, finds a bunch of stuff, cleans it all except the command service. Upon restart, all items return.

    3) Logfile of HijackThis v1.99.1

Default Sorry for replying to my initial post

I hope this doesn't get me overlooked, but I've had lots of time to search these forums and have tried several steps toward erradicating this problem myself. Mostly with the help of THIS THREAD.

Think Prevention: Put in place a good hosts file
    http://www.mvps.org/winhelp2002/hosts.htm
How To Download and Extract the HOSTS file:
    http://www.mvps.org/winhelp2002/hosts2.htm
Repeat that proccess about once or twice a month

To help avoid reinfection see "So how did I get infected in the first place?"
