I had a brief look, but that's really all I needed.
It is packed in a manner that suggest they didn't want to reveal the content.
It also is unsigned. This together convinces me it is trouble.
Which kind I'll leave up to the people that get paid to add it to their definitions.

Can you please download Unlocker from:
    http://ccollomb.free.fr/unlocker/

    Install the program and find:
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\rpcc.dll
Rightclick the file and choose Unlocker from the menu.

    Then delete the file.

Only if that was successfull fix this entry:
    O20 - Winlogon Notify: rpcc - C:\WINDOWS\system32\rpcc.dll
    and reboot.

Post a new HijackThis log when you are done.

    Regards,

    Very good.
Now copy the part in bold below into notepad and save it as Appid.reg
    Set Filetype to "all files"

    Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

    [-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon\Notify\RunOnceEx]

    [-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon\Notify\WgaLogon]

Doubleclick that file and confirm you want to merge it with the registry.

Reboot again and post another HijackThis log.

    Hi Pieter!

Thanks for all your help! At first I had no problems then last night around 3am the laptop suddenly turned itself off whilst I was running a game and showed the blue screen of death

Now whenever I switch it on it loads up fine (check though it has to perform a disk check) but even if I just leave it on the account select screen it turns itself off with the blue screen and starts again in a vicious circle. I am currently working on safe mode with networking! Sorry to bother you again but is there anything I can post to help resolve this new predicament?

P.S. I tried a system restore to no further back than the last correction we made but to no avail

    Cheers Hywel

Can you post the error on the BSOD?

If it goes to fast, turn off the automatic reboot so you can actually see the error when it happens—chances are it will tell us enough to let you troubleshoot further. To change the recovery settings to disable automatic rebooting:

    1. Right-click My Computer, and then click Properties.

    2. Click the Advanced tab.

    3. Under Startup and Recovery, click Settings to open the Startup and Recovery dialog box.

    4. Clear the Automatically restart check box, and click OK the necessary number of times.

    5. Restart your computer for the settings to take effect.

Now when you go to shut down and a fatal error occurs, you'll at least see it and it won't cause an automatic reboot.

    Hi Pieter,

All the usual stuff about F8 and contacting your administrator came up but here is the technical info I assume you need that popped up on the blue screen:

    Technical Information:

    ***STOP: 0x0000008E (0xc0000005,0xF0122BEF,0xEF75CA20,0x00000000)

Hope that is of help, Hywel

    Hi mate,

I've just been reading up about this and I've just changed the acceleration on my graphics card from none to full. Could this be a factor?

    Download haxfix.exe
and save it to your desktop.
    • Double click on haxfix.exe to install haxfix. (standard installation path is c:\program Files\haxfix)
    • Checkmark "Create a desktop icon"
    • Click "Next"
    • When the installation is completed, make sure that the checkmark "Launch HaxFix" is placed
    • Click "Finish"

A red "dos window" (dos box) will open with options:
    1. Make logfile
    2. Run auto fix
    3. Run manual fix
    E. Exit Haxfix

    • Select option 1. Make logfile by typing 1 and then pressing Enter
    • Haxfix will start scanning the computer. When it is finished a logfile will open: haxlog.txt > (c:\haxfix.txt)
    • Copy the contents of that logfile and paste it into this thread.
