I forgot to post in the last. I put the setting on show all files. and then I looked in C:\windows\system, and there is no ibm00009.exe. I also did a file/folder search from the start menu for ibm and it was not found.

If You have connection problems or those 017's ~ O17 - HKLM~ 85.255.116.103,85.255.112.198, return =>
Before doing this write down all the settings, Note that not all system/setups even have these settings, while some connection service's will require them.
In the windows control panel: If you are using Windows XP's Category View, select the Network and Internet Connections category otherwise double click on Network Connections. Then right click on your default connection, usually local area connection for cable and dsl, and left click on properties. Double-click on the Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) item and select the radio dial that says Obtain DNS servers automatically
Press OK twice to get out of the properties screen and reboot if it asks.
That option might not be available one some systems

I could change very little on my TCP/IP. The only thing automatic was the obtaining an IP address which is already automatic. If I fool with those settings it asks for specific IP addresses and the like. My TCP/IP is for wirless G PCI adapter (The rate is DSL). There was a DNS tab that says "DNS configuation". When I go to it I get that DNS is diabled. If I were to enable it, it would ask for host; domain; then a cection about search order. I'm not sure what any of those mean.

My computer has stopped with the connection problem of "detect proxy settings" It just opens right up like always, but I am not still not able to open up any link that requires a new window.

Now the links that change the page you are on (like when you click a google search result, or jump forums on this site) work just fine. Redirects in the same window (like when I logon to this site) work fine.

But if the link has to open a new window I just get a Microsoft Internet Explorer window with a blank address bar and nothing in the frame. If I type an address in that bar or click on one of my favorites from the toolbar (which it has) it works just fine. I have included a hijack this log in this post, but I don't know that you would need it.

Hello

I looked up not being able to open links. The msn support folks said to Go to Start~Run~Regsvr32 and then do a series of .dll files. I did them all and on Shell32.dll I got the following message:

Shell32.dll was loaded but the DllRegisterServer entry point was not found.

DllRegisterServer may not be exported, or a corrupt version of Shell32.dll may be in memory. Consider using PView to detect and remove it.


I tried a fix I found on an IE forum abort extracting a file oleaut32.dll from the CD. I did that and it was successfully extracted, but the fix did not work.

I hope this info helps and I could use some direction. Thanks as usual

Hello.

Please disregard all of the posts I put up (#10, #13, and #14, I think) about not being able to open links. I re-installed IE6 setup and now everything works fine. I didn't even have to use a disk (which I'm not sur I could find anyway.) Sorry about the confusion and any time you may have wasted on that problem.

Now on to the important stuff.

I scanned with Panda Active scan and here is the log.(It said it found a virus in the Killbox zipped file that I sent you the other day. When I viewed report it listed one of the files you had me delete on reboot, and gave the path as my Killbox.zip in my zip files folder.) I don't know if you can tell that from the following log. It also said that its status was disinfected.

Now that you are clean, please follow these simple steps in order to keep your computer clean and secure:

1. Disable and Enable System Restore. - If you are using Windows ME or XP then you should disable and re-enable system restore to make sure there are no infected files found in a restore point.

2. Make your Internet Explorer more secure - This can be done by following these simple instructions:
   1. From within Internet Explorer click on the Tools menu and then click on Options.
   2. Click once on the Security tab
   3. Click once on the Internet icon so it becomes highlighted.
   4. Click once on the Custom Level button.
      
      1. Change the Download signed ActiveX controls to Prompt
         
      2. Change the Download unsigned ActiveX controls to Disable
         
      3. Change the Initialize and script ActiveX controls not marked as safe to Disable
         
      4. Change the Installation of desktop items to Prompt
         
      5. Change the Launching programs and files in an IFRAME to Prompt
         
      6. Change the Navigate sub-frames across different domains to Prompt
         
      7. When all these settings have been made, click on the OK button.
         
      8. If it prompts you as to whether or not you want to save the settings, press the Yes button.
   5. Next press the Apply button and then the OK to exit the Internet Properties page.
3. Use an AntiVirus Software - It is very important that your computer has an anti-virus software running on your machine. This alone can save you a lot of trouble with malware in the future.

5. Use a Firewall - I can not stress how important it is that you use a Firewall on your computer. Without a firewall your computer is succeptible to being hacked and taken over. I am very serious about this and see it happen almost every day with my clients. Simply using a Firewall in its default configuration can lower your risk greatly.

6. Visit Microsoft's Windows Update Site Frequently - It is important that you visit http://www.windowsupdate.com regularly. This will ensure your computer has always the latest security updates available installed on your computer. If there are new updates to install, install them immediately, reboot your computer, and revisit the site until there are no more critical updates.
   
   
7. Install Spybot - Search and Destroy - Install and download Spybot - Search and Destroy with its TeaTimer option. This will provide realtime spyware & hijacker protection on your computer alongside your virus protection. You should also scan your computer with program on a regular basis just as you would an antivirus software.

8. Install Ad-Aware - Install and download Ad-Aware. ou should also scan your computer with program on a regular basis just as you would an antivirus software in conjunction with Spybot.

9. Install SpywareBlaster - SpywareBlaster will added a large list of programs and sites into your Internet Explorer settings that will protect you from running and downloading known malicious programs.

10. Update all these programs regularly - Make sure you update all the programs I have listed regularly. Without regular updates you WILL NOT be protected when new malicious programs are released.

Follow this list and your potential for being infected again will reduce dramatically.

here are some additional utilities that will enhance your safety

• IE/Spyad <= IE/Spyad places over 4000 websites and domains in the IE Restricted list which will severely impair attempts to infect your system. It basically prevents any downloads (Cookies etc) from the sites listed, although you will still be able to connect to the sites.
• MVPS Hosts file <= The MVPS Hosts file replaces your current HOSTS file with one containing well know ad sites etc. Basically, this prevents your coputer from connecting to those sites by redirecting them to 127.0.0.1 which is your local computer
• Google Toolbar <= Get the free google toolbar to help stop pop up windows.
• Winpatrol <= Download and install the free version of Winpatrol. a tutorial for this product is located here:
