I've never heard of the problem before, so it is certainly not a common problem.

    Is this a possible cause?

If not, please provide some pertinent information so that someone can possibly help you determine the cause of the problem:
    • Spybot version?
    • OS you are running?
    • Update experience:
      1. Is the first time I have ever tried a Spybot update?
      2. Have you successfully updated in the past and this is a newly encountered problem?
        • If so, what changes have you made to your system since the last successful update?
    • Exactly when do you get the error message, i.e. when you:
      1. "Search for updates"?
      2. Attempt to "Download updates"?
      3. Etc.

Getting an answer is one thing, learning is another.

Default It could be that your computer is infected with a worm or virus.

So I sujest you check for that. If you use the kaaza program you need to check every day for viruses and worms. Thats an easy way to get infected.
