Thanks for that feedback, I am beginning to agree with you. It is always possible some of the malware caused the problem, but it seems like removing it is not going to fix it.

Let me be sure of this item: O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [CTHelper] CTHELPER.EXE
I am assuming it have to do with this: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/star....EXE-6637.html
If this is the case, fine. If not, let me know because a trojan, though I rarely if ever see it, uses the same name.

Are you aware of these restrictions: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/tuto...utorial42.html
This section corresponds to an Administrative lock down for changing the options or homepage in Internet explorer by changing certain settings in the registry.

So read all of that and see if that restriction should be removed.

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/912945 <<< definately one to read.

    http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q...ns&btnG=Search
    http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&s...ptions&spell=1

I get this feeling you might want to take the problem to Microsoft:

Keep me posted, I used to troubleshoot stuff like this, but since specializing in malware, my knowledge has slipped.
