    Default I have a domain redirect virus, I think. Please Help!

    Hi,
    When I search for some websites on Google, it goes to a Domain Redirect page, and won't go to websites. I have tried to follow the BEFORE you POST instructions completely so hopefully I have prepared well.

    Here is the HJT log and in another post I will put the Kaspersky Report.
    Thanks for any help! -Paul

    All advice given is taken at your own risk.
    Please make sure you have read this information so we are on the same page.

    Hi Paul, I see you recently removed a Smitfraud infection, and I am seeing little else in the HJT log or KOS. We will have to do a little searching, appears the infection causing your issues is hidden.

    C:\Program Files\Viewpoint\Common\ViewpointService.exe
    C:\Program Files\Viewpoint\Viewpoint Manager\ViewMgr.exe
    For your information, Viewpoint is installed by aol probably without your knowledge. I suggest you uninstall this resource waster in Add Remove programs.

    Let's start with this:
    C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Spybot - Search & Destroy\Recovery\ <<< delete the contents of your "Recovery" folder.
    http://ict.cas.psu.edu/training/howt...vespybot.htm#1

    Enable all files and folders:
    http://www.xtra.co.nz/help/0,,4155-1916458,00.html

    Navigate to this file: C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\sptd7357.sys
    and scan it with at least one of these free online scans and post the results:
    http://virusscan.jotti.org/
    http://www.kaspersky.com/scanforvirus
    http://www.virustotal.com/

    1) If you still have Smitfraudfix onboard, delete it and download it new from the link I provide.
    http://siri.geekstogo.com/SmitfraudFix.php <<< download Smitfraudfix from here and follow ONLY these directions.

    Search:
    Double-click SmitfraudFix.exe
    Select 1 and hit Enter to create a report of the infected files. The report can be found at the root of the system drive, usually at C:\rapport.txt

    Note: process.exe is detected by some antivirus programs (AntiVir, Dr.Web, Kaspersky) as a "RiskTool". It is not a virus, but a program used to stop system processes. Antivirus programs cannot distinguish between "good" and "malicious" use of such programs, therefore they may alert the user.
    http://www.beyondlogic.org/consultin...rocessutil.htm

    2) Thanks to LonnyBJones and anyone else who helped with this fix.

    Please download FixWareout from one of these sites:
    http://downloads.subratam.org/Fixwareout.exe
    http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/file...Fixwareout.exe

    Save it to yourDesktop and run it. Click Next, then Install, make sure "Run fixit" is checked and click Finish.
    The fix will begin; follow the prompts.
    You will be asked to reboot your computer; please do so.
    Your system may take longer than usual to load; this is normal.
    Once the desktop loads post the text that will open (report.txt), the C:\rapport.txt from Smifraudfix and a new HJT log.

    Thanks

    Default Following Directions

    Okay, well even before you responded, the problem where the pages were redirected had gone away, I dont know how. But to be safe I am going through the instructions.

    The results of the online scan of C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\sptd7357.sys said:
    0 bytes size received

    Does this mean it didn't work? One of the choices said "It is very likely a firewall or a piece of malware is prohibiting you from uploading this file"

    Anyway, here is the Report from the FixWareOut:

    And neither of them is a complete report Please click on Edit > Select All at the top of that .txt file and post the complete C:\rapport.txt

    Once you get a complete Smitfraudfix report posted, I will edit out the two partials to lessen the confusion if possible.

    It is very difficult for me to tell you to delete a file when I do not know what it is. Please try again with all three of these free scans.
    If you can not get that to work, and we do it all of the time, then open the file by right clicking on it and choose properties. Post all information under properties so I can see if that helps.

    Navigate to this file: C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\sptd7357.sys
    and scan it with at least one of these free online scans and post the results:

    And I couldn't get any of the three sites to read the sptd5357 file, so here is everything contained in the properties window:

    Type of file: System file
    Opens with: Unknown Application

    Location: C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers
    Size: 94.0 KB (96,256 bytes)
    Size on disk: 96.0 KB (98,304 bytes)

    Created: Wednesday, November 22, 2006, 6:09:53 PM
    Modified: same as created
    Accessed: same as created

    (then it lists attributes, giving option to click Read-only or Hidden. and then there is an Advanced button.

    This properties doesn't seem to have anything of importance in it...

    Thanks for returning your report, I see here:
    http://www.techsupportforum.com/secu...ages-more.html
    That driver is NOT flagged by combofix or removed by sUBs, so we will have to assume it is valid.

    Your HJT log and the Smitfraudfix report is clean. You can delete Smitfraudfix and Fixwareout from your computer. Run a new Kaspersky online scan using these setting.

    * The program will launch and then begin downloading the latest definition files:
    * Once the files have been downloaded click on NEXT
    * Now click on Scan Settings
    * In the scan settings make that the following are selected:
    * Scan using the following Anti-Virus database:
    * Standard
    * Scan Options:
    * Scan Archives
    * Scan Mail Bases
    * Click OK
    * Now under select a target to scan:
    * Select My Computer
    * This will program will start and scan your system.
    * The scan will take a while so be patient and let it run.
    * Once the scan is complete it will display if your system has been infected.
    * Now click on the Save as Text button:
    * Save the file to your desktop.

    Then post it here. <<< no need to post a clean scan result. Please tell me how the computer is running.

    Thanks...Phil
