Default Another Trojan, possibly from the Zlob Family

Thanks for reading my post. I have been a long time user of SB S&D and I have read the "Before you post" link. I have S&D v1.5.2 updated as recently as two weeks ago. I understand that you want posters to dl v1.6.2 but since I can't update, I thought that my version may be more up to date than the original v1.6.2 with out updates. Here is my problem.

Unfortunately I tried to install a program in order to view certain media as you have explained in the "Warning! Infection via bad CODEC installs. Zlob Trojan " post. The trojan continuously changes my tcp/ip settings for a dns server from automatic request from my ISP to the following IP address: 85.255.113.49/112.64.

I have tried to delete the entries using regedit and HJT. The DNS settings keep on showing up. I have also tried to edit my Network Connection's TCP/IP DNS settings many times and they keep changing back to the previously mentioned DNS IP.

I have ran AVG, S&D, and Add-Aware many times with no success. I tried digging around the S&D website to see if I can manually update it by saving it to a flash drive, but was unable to find the update files.

I was able to get the manual update files for AVG and still no success.

I also have installed and manually updated "TrojanHunter" and have not had any success, as well as attempting to install "a-Squared AntiMalware" but since that program requires online verification my progress was halted. I have an e-mail in to their customer support as well.

Here is my HJT log (I have unchecked "word wrap" but it still is difficult to read. Sorry):

Right click here and click save link as
Save it as resetteatimer.bat to your desktop

    1) Run Spybot-S&D
    2) Go to the Mode menu, and make sure "Advanced Mode" is selected
    3) On the left hand side, choose Tools -> Resident
    4) Uncheck "Resident TeaTimer" and OK any prompts
    5) Restart your computer.

Double click on resetteatimer.bat and wait for it to finish

You may want to print out these instructions for reference, since you will have to restart your computer during the fix.

    Please download FixWareout from here:
    http://downloads.subratam.org/Fixwareout.exe

Save it to your desktop and run it. Click Next, then Install, then make sure "Run fixit" is checked and click Finish. The fix will begin; follow the prompts. You will be asked to reboot your computer; please do so. Your system may take longer than usual to load; this is normal.

At the end of the fix, you may need to restart your computer again.

Finally, please post a fresh HijackThis log, along with the contents of the logfile C:\fixwareout\report.txt

Default Sorry for the delay in responding

I failed to make clear that I didn't have internet access from the infected computer. I did all steps as directed above. The HJT log showed an absense of the registry changes for name server, etc. I tried to access the internet and was unable to do so. My network connections was receiving about 10% of packets sent, which was better than before. Then all connection was halted. I re-ran HJT and found that the DNS entries were back again. Here are the logs you requested as well as a 2nd HJT log after the DNS entries reappeared.

*After the previously mentioned results were received I realized that I had an old 2nd HD with a mirror from my XP from back in 2004. I made the 2nd HD my master and disconnected the infected one altogether. Surprisingly it still worked and that is why I have internet connection now. I've updated the old HD with IE7, Windows updates and updated versions of AVG, Ad-aware, S&D, and A-squared. I will reconnect my primary HD as slave and run those tools on it. In the mean time I will post those logs for you. Thanks again for your help in this matter, and sorry for the long explaination. (I did take off word wrap)

The bad DNS entries have gone. The DNS entries now showing in your HijackThis log are from Cox Communications, who I assume are your internet provider.

Are you still having internet connection problems?

    Default Thanks

Yes, before I switched HDs, I was still having Internet problems. But I didn't realize that the DNS IPs were from Cox. Yes it is my ISP. I will switch HDs back again and try to trouble shoot the problem with my ISP. If the problem is not resolved, will I be able to continue to t/s with you guys?

I appreciate the help your team has given. If I am understanding correctly, since the original DNS entries haven't reappeared, the trojan should be gone. Did that fixware prgm target a specific trojan?

    Thanks!

Yes, the trojan should be gone. Fixwareout targets infections which come from a certain range of ip addresses.
