I deleted the folder as instructed.
No apparent problems with the system that I can see, just that it takes a little longer to load.
Any ideas?
Also I keep my symantec internet security software upto date very often, why do you think my system got infected?
What can I do to deter geting infected again?

Well no antivirus can find all threats, it is impossible. Especially hard it is with new ones.
As for slowness, I can recommend which startup programs you can disable if you like to?

O4 - Global Startup: AutoCAD Startup Accelerator.lnk = C:\Program Files\Common Files\Autodesk Shared\acstart16.exe
O4 - Global Startup: QuickBooks Update Agent.lnk = C:\Program Files\Common Files\Intuit\QuickBooks\QBUpdate\qbupdate.exe

Open HijackThis, click do a system scan only and checkmark these:

Close all windows including browser and press fix checked.
Reboot.
Post back a fresh HijackThis log.
